Anyone ever installed a cam primarily for the sound?

I still have three years left in Germany, so the Cobra won't get a new until for at least that long. I've always loved the sound of a nice cam and would like to have a little extra power as well. However, it would mostly be for the sound. I never had a chance to mess with the internals of any of my previous cars' engines, so it would be a learning experience too. Am I crazy?

Nope, you're not crazy. The guy before me, who owned my Fox, cammed the out of it, didn't touch the heads or intake.

He was trying to make a SLAB. So he did straight pipes for a loud sound, cammed it so it would have a massive lope, put on crappy LED halos and gave it a cheap-o paint job.
Obviously what he was doing was dumb and probably hurt performance with that cam.
But anyways, it makes sense to go with a big cam for the sound.

From what I've seen, it's not necessary to install a huge cam to get a nice lopey idle. I was thinking something like a B cam ( ) or something similar. Even if I could build an engine here I'd have nowhere to install it.

People talk trash on the alphabet cams constantly, but yeah the B cam (from what I've read) is the best sounding and best loping one. X was the one best for performance out of them.

Is the car state side or there?
3 years is a long long long time to wait to touch a car's internals....

Car is over here. Couldn't pass up the opportunity to run her on the autobahn! At the very least I'm going to look into building an engine piecemeal that'll just stay in the states and be ready for the Cobra when I get back. I still have a few friends (and family) back home that could hook me up with storage and the like.

On my old 94 GT, since one of the heads was cracked and put on some new one's, I installed a Steeda 19 cam.

Since the car was an Auto, and didn't want to hassle with tuning, I choice the Steeda 19.

It didn't have the highest lift, but it did give the car a solid "lopey" sound and made the car pull alot harder!

Hobby Shop on Vogelweh still open? That was the better one between that and Ramstein. Me and a friend rebuilt a few engines in there

They closed that one down. Shortly after I got here they were advertising selling all their equipment. The Pulaski hobby shop is still open, but I don't go there too much. It's nicer than the one on Ramstein, though.
