Anyone ever installed air horns on their fox?

My horn died on my Mustang and I am going to use some air horns instead of going back to stock. I want something that will really wake people up. Can someone tell me how hard it is to install air horns? I want to bypass my old horn so that only the air horns work when I hit the middle of my steering wheel. Also, has anyone done this mod? If so, can you give me a rundown of what you did ?

Haha train horns are illegal.

WHat i did was buy a truck air horn on Ebay for $5 and purchased fittings at local hardware store to convert the air input over to a air tool style nozzle. Then i found a cheak 5 gallon air tank. A little bit of line and there is your air horn. You only have enough air for 2 or 3 good blasts...more if you use short toots before you'll have to refill.

As for actuating it? You'll need to locate a 12V air solenoid on ebay or somewhere else. They cost a little money. WIre it to the wires on the factory horn (unplug the factory horn) and install it on the air horn and you are good to go.

I have a setup (minus 12V solenoid) all built. Just waiting on a solenoid and then putting it in my Fox. I am going to use a toggle to switch between factory horn and the air horn though. It doesn't weight all that much. The horn is about 1 pound and small and compact, the tank is maybe 10 pounds or so. I am using quick disconnect fittings so i can remove the tank when not in use or to refill.

Before I had my 92 Mustang, I had an S-10 that was wrecked. I took the air horns off of it and put thim on the 92. There were 3 plastic horns and the compressor. I was able to moung the compressor under the air filter on the frame rail and the horns were mounted to a steel plate that was also attached on the frame rail. If memory serves me right, I just disconnected the factory horns and ran a wire from the horn wire to the compressor to activate them. Looking back it was kinda silly, but one thing was for sure, it got people's attention.

Wiring one up should be simple; finding a good mounting location might be another story, depending on what kind of setup you get. Basically, it's just a momentary-powered 12v wire, and a solid ground to the frame for the wiring to the mini-compressor. They've got a few so-so air horns available at most parts houses like Autozone and whatever else, but you'll have to look online for something really worth the conversion. That is, if you want something that can be heard over a mile away (as said, probably illegal, but sometimes worth it), then you'll have to look for something kind of industrial-sized, and then you get into more space- and time-consuming setups. Do you want something just to sound different enough to get folks' attention? ... or do you (like I do) wish to scare the living tar outta someone by making them think they're about to be overrun by a big-rig? :D
