The other day i hit it in first gear and then a loud noise so i rolled into the median and got out and saw my belt, pulley and harmonic balancer in the middle of the road. I went and got it and it was still connected to the shaft. the shaft snapped right off behind the balancer. whats up with that? any help would be appreciated.

Same exact thing happened to my friend with a 90 GT but we could never figure it out. His car was stock except for cobra intake and exhaust. Freaky aint it? Sorry I do not have an answer but you aint the only one.

Got pissed off and sold the car. Did not have the funds or the wife to ALLOW him to try and fix it.

Wife actually loved it! Gave her the excuse to buy a minivan for their 5 kids and get rid of the sports car (lady magnet).

How much for the stock crank shipped to 43334. If he does not want it I might.

I have heard of this a lot and it almost always involves a lot of RPM and the stock balancer.

Just remeber you'll need to spin the new crank and have the rods, pistons, pins etc all weighed to see if you will need to rebalance or not. You can not just swap them out...

MD stang is right usually it is due to rpm, stock balancer or a blower.

Sounds like a bad balancer. My buddies 94 did something similar, but his broke in half. Low oil pressure and bad balancer caused his.

Bad balancer and worn bearings probably caused this. Happens all the time to old 5.0's.

Don't even consider trying to re-use the engine, new crank or not, it's probably alot more messed up than you think. Oil pan and timing cover are likely gone too. Not to mention the block may now be cracked.

Here in NJ junkyards, 5.0's complete are only around $500. Meaning you could have your car up and running in a day or two.

If you get a complete engine with harness and all accessories, you can part out the old engine for around $250, meaning the running engine only cost you $250.
