anyone here good at powershifting??

i need some pointers on how to powershift without messing something up. technique is my main problem. any advice is appreciated

If you have a T-5 don't do it. Something is going to break.

Put your right foot on the floor and leave it there.
When it's time to shift, stab the clutch peddle and pull the shifter!!

oh and it doesn't have to be a T-5 to break due to a power shift!

ouch, whats kind of shifter was that out of.

I want to be able to power shift like this guy(not to hijack..its a good video haha)

more than just stabbing the clutch and shifting gears, you need to preload the shifter. mash the throttle to the floor and keep it there, when it comes time to shift, apply pressure to start pulling/pushing the shifter into the next gear right before you hit the clutch and you'll nail it everytime.

if you do it that way how bad is it on the tranny? (i just got a brand new t5 with less than 100 miles on it)... i've been too scared to learn how to do it. i'm waiting until a: the tranny has a few more hundred miles on it. and b: i suck less at driving a 5 speed.

it's no worse for it than not preloading. i have less than 2k on my t5. i've never grinded a gear doing it this way. never missed one either. you gotta look at it this way. you have more muscle in your leg so you can press the clutch faster than you can shift the gear, so preloading gets the timing more even. practice speed shifting before you get into power shifting. speed shifting is the same, except you let off the gas a bit between shifts.

I agree with not doing it. You just need to practice, but you can get it shifted without powershifting in the same time as you could with keeping your foot planted. Sure you may lose a tenth or two because of it, but you won't be as likely to grenade your T5.

25th is the best. He will probably chime in. There was another guy that had a stock Reef Blue notch that ran 12's. Needless to say, he was pretty good too. He sold that car though and I don't know if he still hangs around here.

man that was a badass video....maybe ill be that good one day lol....i only did it thru the gears twice today and i hit it everytime but i wasnt preloading the shifter....ill try that next. but i have always speed shifted and i just got the nerve to powershift it for a little somethin different

You have a brand new T-5 and you aren't that good at driving stick??

Don't do it then. Quick way to say bye-bye to your t-5. A t-5 is rated at 300 ft-lbs. A healthy 302 makes 300 ft-lbs or torque stock. If you do the math..not much room for error.

yeah, i completely agree with you.. i just got the car a couple months ago, and i've spent more time fixing it than i've had driving it... i'm a real chicken **** with it too :/.. oh well, gotta learn some time?

Some of these guys (not 25th) do not shift with a clutch. They have their clutch modified. They also have modified transmissions.

I never felt the need for holding the gas WOT while shifting. If you miss 3rd you're gonna break something. To me that's just not worth the .1 off my ET. I shift pretty quick without doing it and i let out of the gas between every shift, you just have to shift fast enough that when you get back on the gas your RPMs haven't dropped a lot.
