I know that the one guy w/ the Bosses is like a rep for Magnaflow or somethin, i can't remember his username though but I am debating exhaust for my 77 F-150. What is for sure: longtube headers, 3" pipe the whole way out, offroad H-pipe, and 4" Flowdaddy tips. Now muffler wise...I dont know. On a stang I love the Spintechs. Magnaflows sound great but arent loud enough. I want somethin that'll have a noticable idle so I can hear the ol cam lopin' in the 390. I want it also to be loud as hell at WOT. I love the flowmasters at low idle for the sound level but I dont like them at WOT. I do like the soundclips I've heard of the Magnapacks but how loud are they compared to like Flowmasters and such. The Spintechs just aren't truck sounding to me but the Magnapacks seem like they might fit the bill if it is indeed the sound level I want. I want it to muffle some and give a nice tone but I'd still like to know I can set off the occasional car alarm. So any input?

tiresmokr, i believe the person you are referring to is MACABOSS. as far you're exhaust system goes i wouldn't go with the 3" pipes i think you'll be losing to much backpressure, the engine needs some backpressure for scavenging exhaust out of the cylinders and the 390 is not the most efficient in the exhaust department anyway, for sure you would be killing a lot of low-end torque which is waht you want with a 4x4. i wouldn't go any bigger than 2-1/2 personally. as far as the magna packs go i haven't heard any vehicle that has them, but i can tell you from personal experience that i HATE glasspacks of any kind because some dumbass redneck in an elcamino tried to race me one time and when he drove by rolled down window it almost ruptured my ear drum it was so loud, by the way he had some of those 4" echo chamber tips exiting to the sides on it. anyway i'm partially deaf in my left ear because of that, hindsight being what it is i should have raced him, i would have easily smoked his dumbass and not have hearing problems now. just my opinions so take them as you will

Running that 3in pipe with a pair of Magnaflows will be setting off the Bells and Horns half a block away.

I love the Looks in the Rearview's as I roll up at a Idle behind Them.

I know the 3" pipe is generally for 400+hp engines...my 390 has a little bit of work done to it and I'm not too worried about not having enough power in a mudhole...I mostly want wicked loudass exhaust to suit the truck which translates to 3" pipes.

Lookin for me.....Im running Magnaflows on both the Shelbys.....

They sound different on a old school big block then they do on a newer car.....

I am running Magnapcks on the 350 and flows on the 500......

ON the GT350, which is pretty stock, you can hear them all that much at idle...on the 500 though......you can definitely hear it and when I throw a rev it scares small children

BTW- go 2.5" ...Im running a high compression built 428 and Im only using 2.5 inch piping.....

You only need to look at 3" once you get up to about 600-650hp levels.

Run 2.5" piping with the Magnapacks and you will be very happy.

You will hear it at idle and it will scream when it is wide open.....in fact wide open it will almost sound like there are no mufflers at all......but smooth....

if that makes any sense
