i was looking at the FMS-M-7000-A rebuild kit for mt T-45 b/c my gears are grinding (synchros out)

i know i should upgrade, but i might sell this car soon and don't want to drop the 2700 to have a TKO 600 and then loose all that when i sell the car.

your thoughts?

no i meant T-45 (that's what came in the 94 SVT right?)

but i'm also rebuilding my shortblock and putting in some vic jr heads, so I'm pretty sure that I'll need a tremec anyways... I just was wondering if anyone had rebuilt their own (I'm assuming most people would take this time to upgrade...)

sigh. decisions, decisions...

94-95 still had the T-5 in both the Cobra and GT. The T-45 is a 4.6 only deal.

There's someone on here that rebuilt their own T-5, though I can't remember who at the moment. Hopefully they'll chime in shortly.

the 94 -95's cobra came with t-5's i checked my door code thing the other day to check.

from what i hear the t-5 is one of the easiest transmissions to rebuild if your going to do it yourself

I did a complete overhaul/rebuild on my T-5. Real fun tranny to rebuild, did mine in about 5 hours. Plus time to bring it down and put it up. I would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. And your tranny should be a T5 like stanggt1995 said the T45 is a 4.6 thing (we dont like them remember :p lol). Only difference between lets say your T5 and mine is your gears are phosphate coated and the TOB retainer is steel as apposed to our GT cheaper aluminum one. But only that stuff only gives it 30lb ft torque higher torque limit than the GT T5.

higher torque rating or not, the synchros are gone either way.

as i said, i think i need a tremec anyways, but does anyone know anything about these G force street T-5s? i saw a rating of 600 hp for the built ones?

what other options are there for high HP applications? if i want something that will take a blown 408 down the road... back when i was more in the know about stangs, i remember something about Liberty trannys for drag racing, but that was years ago...

thanks for all the replies/info guys!

Any Specialty Tools needed??

What kind of specialty tool are required?? Also do you need a hydraulic press?? Thanks for the info in advance

i just recently rebuilt mine after losing reverse.

i thought the only thing wrong was reverse was gone. after opening up, teeth all chipped and missing on all the gears.

i put astro performance gears in. basically all new. i think the only thing i kept was fourth.

new syncros, bearings, etc.

my throw out bearing retainer was warped so horribly you could see it 5 ft away. it was making the throw out bearing chatter if i remember the noise correctly.

now i have some gear whine in first and second.3rd and fourth and 5th i don't really notice, i may have some, it says on the description that gear whine is normal.

i also have to shift a certain way into 5th for it not to grind. i'm still working on finding the sweet spot, i've got it a couple times without grinding.

my brother had a borg warner t5 in his 86 stang i think it was. he was putting out close to 500 hp. only gears he had a problem with were 2nd and 3rd., where he would keep having to replace them.

after all my money spent, i would of probably just went with an already built T-5. it seemed as if i was saving money by going with the gears sets and putting them in myself, but it pretty much evened out after complete costs came into play.

it was a fun experience though, i learned a lot. my dad was the main one doing it, i just helped all i could and learned as much as possible and there was much as possible to take part.

the only part i wasn't there for was when installing 5th. thats when i went out and hooked up the new clutch pressure plate and bell housing to get ready to install the tranny.

i've got a good guide/walkthrough on helping you out that i found online that i can get for you. i'd have to go down and get the paper to get the site again though.

if i remember right there were certain tools needed, but we didn't have them, so we managed with what we had.

we didn't have to go buy any special tools for the job, or send anything out to get done, everything was done in my basement.

tomorrow morning i'll grab the packet i printed out, to find out where i found it. I don't want to wake anyone up rummaging through papers hah.

There really arent any special tools required. Just a hydraulic press and gear pullers. Everything comes apart and goes together REAL EASY!. And I have heard much better things about the Gforce T5 then the Tremec. In fact a friend of mine is building a Turbo fox coupe and we are going to be doing the complete g-force kit to his tranny. And a lot of people have had good luck with the upgraded input shaft and gforce 1st, 2nd and 3rd holding good power.

I think it is better to buy a rebuilt/heavy duty replacement- I rebuilt mine once to save some cash- it wasn't worth it....the time spent vs just buying a decent replacement I mean...unless you just really really want to learn how. gl
