anyone rebuild their own tranny

I rebuild transmissions. I usually charge $150 plus parts for a T-5 or Tremec 3550 series transmission. It's actually really easy, and doesn't require many specialty tools. You can download the overhaul manuals for free on the TTC website in PDF format. Rebuilding a transmission takes about 4 hours if you go slow. The only tool you really need is a nice punch pin to get all the roll pins out, but that's only a few dollars. TTC also recommends checking the runout on the input shaft with a gauge, but generally it's within spec if you just shim it back the way you found it. It's almost always 2 shims behind the retainer. If you don't have a gauge to check that, I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think I have ever put a single transmission back together that didn't use two shims.
