Anyone run 275-40-17 nittos up front on a 17X9 wheel?

I'm buying new tires for my car next week. I'm being told to run a 275-40-17 tire up front. I'm afraid this may cause me headaches in terms of rubbing and such. Anyone run these? If so, do you know what BS you have? I got my 17X9 with a 6.25" BS for the front, I'm hoping I didn't screw up there. I'm getting 315 DR's for the rear 17X10.5's I got.

Not quite the same, but I'm running stock '03 Cobra wheels & tires (Eagle F1, 275-40-17), and I do get some rubbing on the passenger side when turning tightly, as in a parking lot.

Nitto tires also seem to run a little narrower than other tires, so that size should work fine if the others in fact are just barely rubbing

So the '03 cobra come with 275's? I just checked AFS's website, and their 17X9 wheels come in either 5.9 or 6.11BS, so my 6.25 should be fine as that's less than an 1/8th" I went with these so I have less of the wide track front, narrow track rear look our cars are plagued with, plus with this additional BS I will have less lip int he front which will make the wider lip in the rear even more pronounced. I'm afraid of this wide of a tire up front... should I be?


JFYI- I'm leaving in an hour for Vegas and won't be home until next thursday, so I won't be reponsding for a while, but all opinions are welcomed.

I'm running 03 Cobra wheels up front with Kumho 275x40 tires. Theres only a tiny bit of rubbing at the extremes of the turning radius.

My 255/40s rub sometime when I turn the wheel to lock and then hit a small bump. It is rare but does happen.

I have real 2003 Cobra wheels with Bridgestone 275/40-17s. The only time I rubn is when Im going less than 5 mph with the wheel locked, like when turning into a parking spot. Its nothing to worry about. Enjoy the new wheels and post some pics when they get put on!

im gonna say i wouldnt run a 275 on the front....first off....AFS reccomended the 8 inch wheel up front with like 245 tires because they said the Mustang gives up some handling with stuff wider than 255.....ALOS...i find that my 17x9" Cobra R with 255s on the front sticks almost a little to far out for my liking....on gravel it sometimes like to kick small stuff up and shoot it along side of the car....now these are with kuhmo tires i could only imagine what might get stuck in Nittos.....just some food for thought.....when i do change my tires i will def be going with more 255's up front....and 315's out back

The wheel sticking out in the front annoys me a bit too, the way it throws crap along the car. But, that is the wheels fault and not the tires.

I've only had my fronts rub twice and that was due to my inner fender hanging down on one side. Took care of that, and no more issues. The only time it can happen is on extreme tight turns at low speed. Plan low speed turns properly and there aren't any issues.

I've got 275/40/R17's all around on the Eagle 168's (fake Cobra R's) using Kumho Ecsta Supra's and there's no rubbing whatsoever. They stick out about 1/8 of an inch from the fender in the front. That's the only problem.

I'd have to advise against going with the 275/40 up front myself for 3 reasons: First off all they rub on left handed turns, secondly they stick out too far and look ugly, and lastly a rut or unevenness in the road pulls the front end from side to side and believe me i ran them for about 4 years and i hated them just didn't have the cash to replace them. 275/40/17 Nitto 555's

They do rub at absolute full lock in parking lots and wider fronts will hurt the turning radius. However, mine doesnt track any worse then stock and it handles very nice, imo. Going to wide sticky rears will cause more understeer, not wider fronts. Mine stick out a tiny bit, but I'd rather them stick out a tiny bit than sit inside the wheel well, especially like the rear wheels on the vast majority of people who get Cobras etc.

I dont know why you need 275's in the front anyway. I "dry fitted" my Sumo's on the front when I put them in the back. They went on fine...but in my case, I have a power pipe coming throught the fender well. They would definitely rub in my case.

Well, I dont 'need' 275's, but its not like thats an insane size to have. My stepdad's Saleen SC281 has 265's, so they have to have some reason to put a wider than normal front tire. If you put 275's on the front and 275's in the rear it would probably help understeer due to having a lot more traction in the front end. Mine still understeers a bunch because I have wide ass rears and soft(ish) Tokico Illumina front shocks.

im running 255's up front( no need for a wide tire like that in the front) and 285s in the rear.

When I get my 10.5" rears, I will run a 315

I dont know why you need 275's in the front anyway.

Maybe for the same reason you'd put wider tires on the back.

I just installed my new rims and tires last night. Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's 275/40/17 up front and 315/35/17 in the rear. I didn't notice any rubbing up front, but they do rub a little on the rear fender. I'll post some pics when the weather turns nicer.
