anyone running cobra front brakes w/ gt rears?

anyone running the cobra front brake kit with the gt rears? the rears are still on national backorder and am getting soo many different stories on when they will ship. so i was wondering if anyone was doing this? pics of how it looks and or how it feels with the larger rotors up front and the significantly smaller rear brakes.

i was wanting to put these all on at the same time since i am getting my gears put in. i can order the parts seperatley but it will cost me at least 120 more than the kit and that wont even include the dust shields.

Im running just the fronts. Thats all i had planned on. Feels fine. Much more braking power than my stockers. I love the firmer pedal feel with the braded steel lines. Im sure having the larger cobra rears would help somewhat but most of the braking comes from the front of the car anyway.

Indeed, the rear brakes don't do too much on our cars. The cobra rear calipers are the same as the GTs anyway, just a little more surface area with the rotor. If you're really concerned about it, get the baer kit. It's not too expensive.

thanks. i think for now im just going to get stock rotors and pads. might look a little funny with the bigger front brakes but oh well. i might get them changed later when/if they finally come in.

Front stops the car, rear keeps the back going straight.

I plan on getting Cobra fronts, and just a kit that allows you to put bigger rotors on the back.

yeah im runnin the set up... feels alot better to me, anything is better than stock... i might just clean up the rear since u can see some rust because of the FR500s spacing on the rims.... but i dont plan on changin them

It won't look much different either way, the only difference will be with the color of the caliper unless you paint the rears. I have the Bullitt kit front & rears and the rears are pretty much the same as stock GT

I'm installing mine in about 4 hrs. I got the front Bullit kit, and I just bought stock replacement (coated) rotors and pads for the rear, I'm just going to paint the stock rear calipers red to match the front. Have any of you guys removed the rear dust shields entirely? I'm either gonna do this or paint them black so they don't show as much.

Put a little lock tite on the caliper bolts in the front. One of my bullitt caliper bolts vibrated out and my caliper got all jacked up on the rim.

ditto.....the brakes in our cars are biased to the front. enough of a bias that i just couldnt justify the added cost to have a bigger rotor out back.

You will be fine...I open tracked my car w/ cobra fronts and stock rears for quite a while.

Oh yea, dust shields front and rear are good for nothing but overheating the brakes. Most of the dust blows away when yuo drive on the highway anyways.

where are you guys getting your front kits from?

which master cylinder are your guys using?

i want to add full cobra brakes up front with stainless lines and slotted/drilled rotors all around (cobra front/ GT rears).

not cobras, but Brembos and they are doing fine... Gets exspensive to replace the larger rears when you do a break tourqe burn out... Also allows you to run a smaller tire at the track as well...

I am running cobras up front and stock rear and stock GT master cylinder. let me tell you it maid a world of difference.

The pedal is real firm compared to before.

Just installed bullet fronts with stock rears, and stock m/c. Pedal feels great and there is pretty much no fade, I love 'em! There is no more spongyness in the pedal, even though the kit only came with stock-style rubber lines. I'm a happy camper.

But yeah, I was going to order the black mach 1 brakes (no logo) but they were hard to find, then the black Cobra kits were back-ordered until at least May as well as the 10th aniversary red ones, but I managed to find a Bullet kit from Texas and got it shipped. I'm gald I managed to not have the word "Cobra" anywhere on my car still, since I'm a bit particular about not fobra-izing my car.
I'll post pics in the talk section when I clean the car, its very dirty from the rain.

I've been having a bit of conflicting feelings about this myself. I'll soon have the cobra front fascia, 10th anniversary brakes, and 2000 cobra Rs...I figure as long as I don't put a cobra emblem on it anywhere I'll be happy enough that I'm not creating a fauxbra. Plus, I think a lot of it has to do with people that actually call their car a Cobra after doing all the body work to make it look like one. I think that is bunk.

I just like some of the cobra parts' aesthetics.

I still don't know what I'm going to do for the side emblems (currently none). I don't like the stock GT emblem. I considered the fox 5.0 emblems, but I think I'll either be putting on V6 ponies, or I'll just leave it the way it is
