i know that the control arms that i just put on are going to make a big difference with my 60'. my usual is a 1.85. i also plan on putting my 4.30 gears in very soon. that should also help me get off the line. if i got my 60's to 1.70-1.75, how much do you think my overall ET will drop? actually, i would like my 60's to get into the high 1.6's. we'll see. cecil opens at the end of this month. i usually run quicker there than anywhere else. maybe i should break down and buy a mass air meter and throttle body.

general rule is a .10 in 60 foot is worth .20 at the end.

you would have to get your 60 foot down to atleast 1.70 to run 12 anything. and i dont think your gonna do that with what you have. going to a 4:30 gears isnt gonna do it either. its way too much gear. u might pick up on 60 foot but you are gonna lose it right back in high gear. i was running 4:10's in my car and picked up .10 and 2 mph by going down to 3:73's.i think you need to start looking at things like cams, heads or maybe nitrious.

Hope that helped.

Are you powershifting? You should be in the low 13's with that trap speed. With a 1.7 60ft and some practice, I think you can do it. Good Luck

thanks, i know there is some beleivers out there. i see a few people with lower times than mine with less mods.

no, i don't powershift, just shift real fast. also, best 60's to date have been ~1.82's. with a good 5000 rpm launch, i think i will be very close. then maybe with the addition a throttle body and mass air meter..........we'll see.

axeman, How much does your car weigh? Are you running a short belt? I really think you can do it.

I've ran a 13.4 @ 98 in a 92 coupe on Nitto dr's. Also ran a 13.13 @ 102 in a 90 hatch on drag radials. Both cars had stock heads, cam, intake, t/b and mass air sensor to give you a reference.

thanks for your support brian. last time i weighed the car it was 3240 with me. i run a short belt alright. no PS, AC, Smog. so all i have is a crank, water pump, and alternator. belt is ~41", i forget. sounds like the cars you had there were some good runners (compliments to the driver too). i'm thinking of stepping up to some ET Drags since i need new tires for the track anyway.

i still dont think so. hes trapping mid 101's while your at mid 103's and even with a 1.75 60' with the 103.45 trap your not in 12's (not hating on your car, great time actually especially for that mph). hes gonna have to come up with atleast 2 more mph (more hp).

maybe i'll need the throttle body and mass air meter, but look at what factory stock guys are running. mid 12's at 106 looks like the slowest guy. alot of it's about driver and traction. of course, i'm no professional driver and my car is not set up as a dedicated drag racer either. maybe i should just get the ET Drags!

I doubt you'll be able to do it. Your car is a little heavy. 4.30's will make you slower. That's too much for a stock car. I'll admit a few "freak" cars have done stuff like that.

Factory stock guys run specially assembled motors with cobra or explorer heads and intakes, light cars, no PS and full exhuast (short tubes, X or H pipe), and I think they can run a 65mm throttle body. Heck, this year I think that they can run roller rockers. It's no cmparison- silly to use those as an example. Those engines may be running stockish specs but they are very detailed in assembly and they milk every last HP out of them.

thanks, but i was just giving an example. i am aware that their cars are purpose built, that's why i specifically said "set up as a dedicated drag racer ". i am installing the 4.30's for a little help off the line. i am going to the track on the 27th, and if i run out of gear, i will probably step up to a 27" slick.

silly huh? there's more people out there than you think that have run 12.9's or better with stock heads and cam. maybe my goal will be a little tough, but it's not impossible. go over to hardcore50.com and see for yourself.

here's one thread for example:http://bbs.hardcore50.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11485

Factory stock guys have to run P/S and weigh 3200 or 3250 if they run gt40 heads. The Cobra 1.7 roller rockers have been allowed all along.

Axeman, do you still have your front sway bar?

Guys, just because you can't do it doesn't mean it can't be done.

Mark You'll do it....

It can be done, but takes time and paitence, and a good tune both motor and suspension.

12.87 @ 104mph 1.600 60ft

91 GT STOCK 302 (MOTOR 169,000 MILES) STOCK HEADS, CAM, INTAKE, TB, MAF

I had 3:73's, 70/30's, 50/50's, Eibach drag lauch kit, no front sway bar subframes, SSM lowers, M&H Racemasters 26" x 10" D.O.T approved, Weld Draglites. 1.7's, K&N Filter, Ram Air, Mac long tubes, Mac Off roads and Flowmaster American Thunder, full weight except I had a 4" Cowl hood...

I went a few 12.97's-99's and was more a 13.0-13.1 car, 60ft determined everything...

It can be done. Keep in mind the drag series guys have fresh motors, how many miles on yours? Also, they probably powershift which can be worth a few tenths. Practice, practice, practice as they say.

In 1990 ish, a friends '89 GT went 12.99 with slicks, 4.10s, LT headers, home ported stock intake, ported stock mass air, and powershifting - the valve covers never came off.
