Anyone with a street bike?

lol i think you kept your kia the longest. so did you buy a bike yet? That last picture is just a stock sv650s. The one about that is an sv650s with the full race fairing. I just sold my bike. Heres what im gettin.

nope.. had my fox the longest (2 years), then my cobra (7 months), then the kia (6 months), then my 2000 gt.. like 2 months? lol

had my truck for 3 already i think, so its going strong so far.

nah i didnt buy a bike yet. i didnt check out the cbr i could have gotten a killer deal on today. back and forth on getting one or not still. that looks like a killer bike though, how much you spending on that now? one reason i dont want a new one, tired of depreciation hits on new ****.

Ive got an 05 zx12.

(imho) The 650 would be a great starter bike. They're also comfortable, and inexpensive. They are *fairly* popular as track day bikes too, so there are lotts of aftermarket/replacement parts available.

Another option, if you wanted to go a little more sporty, would be a used cbr600. The f4 and f4i can be had real reasonable on e-bay/craigslist (3-3500 is common).
They arent a barn burner, but they do everything well.

Of course with your other new honda in the garage.....

Oh, on the crashing tip....

Ive been down 4 times over the years (been street riding 20+ years) and the worst I have ever been hurt was 3 cracked ribs and some minor elbow rash.

The first 3 times I walked away without a scratch at speeds up to 80, because I was wearing full gear.

The last time, I got the ribs and elbow cuz I was "just going up to the burger joint", so I had a sweatshirt on. BUT I was wearing boots, levis, gloves, etc... so it still could have been much worse (and was only doing about 25-30).

For visualization sake, imagine sprinting as fast as you can, downhill... then lay out swandive, face first onto the pavement. Thats what a 10 mph crash is like. Now multiply times 5 or 6 or 8... and add in big 3000lb steel bricks trying to run over you as you slide..... still think its cool to ride in a tank-top?

working on it, I gotta get it all lined up, check to see if the exhaust still fits, tune it, emmissions, renew license. etc.

I am also thinking of getting another bike when I get back. I had an 84 Honda Sabre 700 but it was just too big and heavy for me. Now, I'm just looking at gas mileage and fun so maybe a 500 or 600. If I want to go insanely fast , it will be in the Cobra... I've looked at the Ninjas, a guy here is a Ducati mechanic and he says they are reliable. I know they are not the hot thing like an R6 but I'm just looking at back and forth to college....

Duc is a good scooter, they are a little more spendy though. The ones they make with a trellis frame are sweet looking. Gonna paint it like a 51?

I should have my bike by mid July. It will likely be a Ninja or a GSX-R. Right now, I am leaning toward a GSX-R 750.

Hell yeah gsxr750 is a perfect balance when it comes to sportbikes in my opinion.

I think it's silly for people to say you must get a ultra slow bike when you already know how to ride.

that's like saying, "no you cannot have a 400HP-800HP cobra because you havne't mastered the stock 225hp fox body mustangs around a track with respectful laptimes. And until you can get respectful track times in a stock fox body you aren't worthy of having a 500hp cobra."

Nobody told him to get an "ultra slow bike". Recommending a SV is not the same as recommending a Vespa...

You're free to buy what ever bike you want, but for a beginning street rider, a gixxer 750 is a bit much. However, I don't mind population control...

Dood, totally different. Not saying that he has to master the bike or be Valentino Rossi on a 250. The whole idea when starting around a 600cc bike or lower is to learn to respect the fact that you are on 2 wheels, in a world where drivers are oblivious to you, and that you are on something that reacts to the elements much more sensitively. Not only is it easier to stay out of trouble on a smaller bike due to it's size and weight, but the power is a lot more reasonable.

Think about it this way... if you were offroad, would you rather be on something oversized, overpowered, and heavy? Or, would you rather be on something that was lighter, nimble and easier to correct incase of error or incident? ESPECIALLY being your first bike. On a street bike, the road is like being out in a busy dirt park. You don't know when a quad is going to come bombing out of some side trail to take you out. The reality is it is all relative.

i should of emphasized the line where I said, "I think it's silly for people to say you must get a ultra slow bike when you ALREADY know how to ride."

I would borrow someone elses bike and learn to ride a bike for a day or a few months depending on your leaning curve to save time and money.
