just the a/c line in the engine compartment, somtimes they rust and are realy hard to get apart. I had to remove mine when removing the heater core. Well actualy i just cut it off, i wasnt going to spend more time on messing with it, I never use a/c anyway, and i dont care about the value cuz the car is mine forever lol

Don't keep a gun too close because you might shoot yourself, and bring lots of booze! good luck

Depending on how old your ac evap core is, you might think about replacing that at the same time. If you plan on removing the dash completly, I would change the evap as well. It is only a few steps more, but it will save you a TON of time if it starts leaking in the near future. It's just one of those things where replacing the heater core, you are 3/4 the way to replacing the evap.

So does the ac have to be evacuated to do just the heater core?

try to finding all the nuts, bolts, screws, and plastic connectors is a pain in itself!

but remembering where every nut, bolt and screw goes is back to is the real problem!

I meant to reply to this one earlier...I would watch out for:
1. Thrown Tools
2. Cut up hands
3. Small children with sensitive ears
4. Making sure that the idiots at the parts store give you the correct heater core - meaning, if your car has A/C, then give me the damn heater core for a car with A/C and if the car doesn't have A/C, then give me the heater core for said vehicle.
5. More throwing of tools

Enjoy?
