i found on ebay HD supermaster rebuild kit w/ alto steels HD band and tan clutches for 100 bucks transgo HP reprogramming kit 85 bucks A++ super servo w/anodized cover for 105 bucks and a local shop that will do rebuild it for 375 bucks am i forgetting anything ?i need this AOD to handle about 300-400 HP. is there any case machining needed ?or things like that....

A harderened input shaft would be nice upgrade. Plus a 2" kevalar OD band. And if you really want to get into it, can upgrade the intermediate cltuch pack from, 3 clutches to 4 clutches, and swap out the one way roller clutch for the mechanical diode set-up. But both these mods call for buying internal parts. The intermediate(2nd gear) clutch upgrade will call for a new intermediate pressure plate and 4r70w steels. And with the mechanical diode upgrade, you will need the reverse drum, sungear and sungear shell.

Check out this site for parts. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/AOD.htm

thats some good info but im gonna wait and see what kind of damage i done before ....cause the tranny guy said he would rebuid it stock now im adding all these extra parts he might jump the price youknow.

planetaries, drums, shafts ,cases you know pretty much everything not included in a rebuild kit. if it's not making metal then you likely don't have a problem. you're builder may want to upgrade your drum to the ratcheting 'mechanical diode' this is seen as a good thing seeing as ford stuck em in 4r70's since about about 98. trucks have only gotten bigger and heavier over the last few years. believe me if ford says it needed it then it did, they won't spend an extra penny on drivetrain unless they figure they have to.

cool thanks im keeping notes on paper of alll this stuff so he knows i know sorta of what hes trying to telll me ok ill look up that mechanical diode planet set, drums and shafts those will be stock replacement exept for the diode.

Another thing is either an "A" servo or an aftermarket billet servo for the overdrive. The A servo is a Ford part and can be bought at the parts counter. The aftermarket billet will run you twice as much as the "A" servo. And will be good for what you want. This servo is for more applying force on the OD band. Soo not to burn up OD if you don't use an aftermarket vavlebody with the OD on a switch.. Check out that site I posted above for parts and prices.

i would probably go to the dealer and get an overhaul seal kit too unless the trans shop is supplying one of those. even so i would insist that they only use ford seals. if they dont, get your own seal kit. kevlar od bands are nice, that is if you have an all out race car. the AODE overdrive band is a good enough upgrade for what you are asking from your trans. besides if you are at wot, your trans wont shift into 4th gear anyway.

quite likely yes, u may be suprised to find some tranny shops having them too. most major transmission parts distributors buy them up by the truckload and then sell them cheap to tranny shops. i remember getting some a few years ago for about 40$ canadian with frictions.

thanks Ron this has been some of the best information for my time money and intended usage of my AOD trans . Ford parts seem to be the best except for the updated a+ servo and few other stuff .around 300 hp is what i have now and this trans is gonnna set me back for awhile moneywise so this is good :nice: hopefully it will last me a couple 100 thousand miles i want to put the fluid in it and forget it .

i am a do it myselferer and thats one thing i did do after bout the fourth time i removed the pan trying to get the trans to shift .thanks guys .this trans supposubly had 10 thousand miles on it and i decided geez what could be the harm in changing the trans fluid so off i went to work on it i dont know if the guy lied bout the trans or if the builder did a sucky job but thats why i am where i am now . when it was running it shuddered into OD off and on bout 45 mph but never slipped i should have guessed smthg was going on in there .i was about to get myself into trouble before i could afford it a valve body maybe all thats wrong with it but im going with OD dust in the pan as my main reason for the rebuild.
