Well today i got the tranny out, and now i cant get that shifter out for the life of me. people said that you dont have to take out the consel but i see no other way. Any Pointers?

well I had to take out the consol, it just made things easier. It comes out relatively easy. Then just take the 4 bolts that hold it down off. PM me & I'll give you my AIM name if you have any other questions.

For a 5-speed, no. For the AOD, yes. The console will have to come out. You will be trimming the hole anyway, so it's probably better anyway.

I dont know of a way you could get the AOD shifter out without removing the console. If you look at the bottom of the shifter from under the car, you can see that it dog legs under the transmission tunnel you will have to take the console out just to get enough room to clear that dog leg. I posted the instructions above on post #6. Like 89mustanggx said, you are going to have to trim the console anyway for the new shifter.RsStanG1987 said:
Cool thanks for the fast replies. Im doing a little at a time so i dont do a rush job. Right now i am waiting for a new cross member so i cant do much until then. Once i get that shifter out it will take me about only 45 minutes to do the fly wheel,clutch, and tranny. I dont wanna get too close to completion with out a cross member.

You certainly can -- and it will make getting the 5-speed shifter in and out while the console is in easier. But, for the actual shifter being there and actually putting in and pulling out, it's not necessary.
Well I got the tranny in tonight. I diddnt have to trim the floor at all it fits just fine. Tommorrow i just have to put my headers on H-pipe drive shaft clutch cable and the starter. I figured its been a while so id let my progress be known.

It's where the shifter comes through the floor. Most of the time they need to be cut a little further up so the shifter fits good. If not, all the better. But don't be surprised if you go to button it all up and you end up needing to trim some.
