Hey what is the main benefits of gettin a manual over a automatic? how much quicker is the manual car then the automatic? i know that manual can be a lot of fun compared to the auto, but what about performance-wise? sorry for the newbie ?

Well, unless it's a fully built auto i think the T5 wins hands down.
Much more user control. Not as expensive no need to switch shift points if you change gears etc. The AODE takes more power to run than the T5 so your losing a little more power by using an AODE.

This is a long standing fallicy - At full lockup they are every bit as efficient as a cogswapper, with the measured 'difference' actually just being HP turned into torque, or vice versa.

In very much the same way your power/torque figures change on a manual if you switch to a different rear end gear.

Manuals always dyno higher than auto's with the same setup, they eat up a larger amt of hp to the rear wheels (from what I've seen ). I think autos tend to be quicker when you have a built one or a really fast car that the manual becomes a problem w/consistency, ect..

I've never heard of the dyno reading higher with a higher rear gear, but I never went to the dyno after my switch from 3.73 to 4.10's

I had an 87gt w/a 2400 stall and B&M shift kit, the stall really woke up the car, but I would still prefer a manual.

the manual weighs about 60lb. less. aside from that, there is less power loss through the drivetrain with the manual. if you havent bought your stang yet, i would definitely look for a 5spd. i made that mistake and already went down the road of swapping in the 5spd.

If you ask me, the difference between an auto and stick is purely a question of fun. Sure auto's slush box eats a few HP, and yet they are more consistent in high HP braket racers. And there probably is a few % difference in dyno measured power and maybe a few tenths at the 1/4.

But all that is fairly minor. To me a sports car should have a few important elements, namely, a stout nice sounding motor, a good suspension, and above all a stick. To others the stick aint so important. To each his own on this. But for me, it HAS to have a stick.

Just my .02 I had both. After driving a jeep (stick) to work back and forth to work each day it is so nice to pull the lever once and go. For playing around and racing I would prefer the stick but when driving through downtown and heavy traffic..I'll stick with the auto..even with some of the issues you have to work out when you modify the engine. LOL

Ive had both, and the aod I last had was hideous. 5 spds are fun to play with, but Ive had so many. Ive always wanted an auto car, built right. I have an aode with 4.10's, shift kit and a converter yet to come. The car moves and shifts quick. I think a b/m hammer with ratchet action is going to be even more fun banging it through the gears.

STOMP AND STEER!

I still think of newer Mustangs as "muscle cars", and for some reason, in my mind "muscle cars" have automatics with steep gears. LOL

Anway, I love my built AODE w/Edge Racing 3000RPM lockup converter...I can't wait to run it this year and see how much the transmission helps. It's very fun to drive, rips out of the hole and slams hard into second.
