Are our cars supposed to have air deflectors on the bottom?

I just changed my coolant and mannnnn. It was so black and burned up with a light tint of green. Seriously, it looked pretty bad. I tried cleaning the overflow resevoir out and I seriously had like 4 inches of black gunk in the bottom. I can't imagine what my radiator looks like inside but since i'm out of a job a new one is going to have to wait a little bit. Anyway, I checked my fan to make sure it worked and I looked underneath the car and I don't see a air deflector in the center. There are 2 black things underneath the bumper on the sides but right underneath the radiator there is this metal/aluminum looking peice with a few holes in it with nothing on it????

I know fox bodies run them on road track and it creates a considerable downforce to keep it stable at high speeds.

I'm in Texas so it gets a bit hot in the summer here.

Several years ago I lost mine. It took a day or two before I figured out why my temps suddenly went up.

Another vote. It was 12 bucks at the dealer for mine. I would note that this summer me thinks I will be fabbing up something a little custom for mine (I have sort of a custom one on the fox - a homemade jobbie that started life on a truck). I love the Mach 1 lip spoilers, but I refuse to spend more than about 8 times what something costs to make (6 buck piece of plastic).

That little piece of crap is VITAL!!!

Ask Paul... our Xenon front bumpers extend past the black deflector, and the difference is noticeable on the highway..The car SHOULD be cooling off at higher speeds, but instead heats up because of the deflector being blocked by the front bumper!

i took mine off because my car sits too low and it was scraping
plus it looked like ass.

i still have mine and i pay attention to temp changes in my car, it's been off for over a year, and no changes have happened, ever.

I didnt find the thing to matter much till ambient temps got to around 100*F - maybe that's a consideration for some of you.

I'm going to use dryer duct and some of those cool fuel saving-devices that go in the intake tube to ram air into the radiator.

Like some, I haven't noticed a difference between with or without's, but if some have, best to stay safe

can't find it, thought it was in my storage room, it's 2.5 feet long, black, and has a lip on it with holes (to attach to your car)

If you've removed your a/c, it doesn't matter at all, since you'll have air direct to your rad, but since the condensor sit's there like a big wall, the air deflector takes all the air coming into the bottom of the car, and pushes it to the rad...

when attached to the car, it is a 3 peice assembly, one under each side of the front bumper, and the centerpiece, which is usually the one that gets ripped off when you topple cats on the highway

Thanks guys, i'm going to order at 50resto, just saw it in the book. But yea, I know I was running hot but couldn't prove it because my water temp gauge isn't functioning properly. Maybee that is why some of you think it didn't make a difference? I wouldn't trust the stock temp gauge too much. I can't really tell with this cooler weather we're having right now but it feels like my coolant change is helping my horrible detonation problem. Feels like it runs better already, and should run even better when I get that air deflector back. It was probably taken off because my car was lowered when I got it. Thanks guys!

Just make sure you use all the clips to secure it, or else you'll end up losing it again on the interstate

Its a little black flipper flapper doo-hicky lookin kinda thing.

Its fixed on the bottom of the snout of your car.

Look under there, if you don't see it ......... its gone

Can't get no more simpler than that
