I will say like i told Collin. I'm a little disappointed that we didn't get the body better, but we've been working on it forever. This car probably shouldn't have been saved.. Every panel on it was fubar, qnd it has a bunch of little hiccy dos in it that make it a nice ten foot car. As Collin put it, bad ass first car. It'll be ok.

I think it looks great and he is going to have a sweet ride. I admire the amount of work that you both have put in. I hope my son and I work together like that when he is old enough.

You can somewhat, to me it's a waste of time, too much chance of hurting the substrate.
Sorry about not checking sooner, don't worry about a run, I have much experience with making and cutting runs out.
Totally bitchin' color dude, very nice!
Text me when you are ready to cut and buff, I'll walk you through it. Runs just take a patient hand and a couple specialty blocks made by Mcguires. I'll help you buddy, it won't be that big of an issue.

Thanks man. I cut and buffed one yeeeeeears ago with 1200 and perfect it II. But- I'm gonna have to go buy a buffer. I can't believe i sagged the side like that, but it's just more time, that's all. I can say the roof and hood look like glass! I think if I'd gone a little lighter on the passes it would've been okey dokie... But meh. Happy overall. Again, the pics do this thing zero justice.

Shoot man, I've been painting cars for almost fourty years and I still get runs. Slight changes in humidity, temperature, freaking barometric pressure change things when you paint, not to mention new materials!
A run is a run, two inches or two feet. They are all handled the same, obviously one takes longer to get rid of.
PM me a good close up of the run from a couple different angles and I will give you my advice on what I would do.
Or just post it on your thread, people can learn from this one thing.
I am good at removing runs man, other painters ask for help from me on that subject(tinting colors too).
Let the run sit for a week before you think about taking it out first off, got to let the clear harden up good and solid. Then I'll tell you how I do it.
It would be helpful to buy a 1000 grit and maybe a 1500 grit Mcguires stone. They are little blocks about two inches long, half an inch thick.
Use 1500 to cut and buff. I currently use 2000 myself. 1200 leaves deeper scratches that are tougher to get rid of.
It's so cool that the rest turned out so nice man, I love seeing a fresh paint job on a hood and roof before life gives it any scratches, bird crap and other "character marks".
Now, if you aren't already, I suggest drinking alcohol and relaxing.

Man I agree. I don't know if I should be jealous because she will be so much sweeter than anything I ever had as a kid, or the fact you have an outstanding father-son project. Either way, you should be proud.

I don't know how you were feeling before going into the shoot, but I'd bet it's a lot better now.

I know that when the time comes for me I'll be all worried about it. If I can get similar results (minus the sag of course ) I'll be jumping up and down.

Congrats.

Thanks Mike! Yeah, I'm not gonna lie... I needed a liquid sedative.. Haha. Very nervous. It turned out fantastic really, save for a few spots that need cutting and buffing. I found a few more small runs and I was discussing with Dave something on the front of the hood that looked like a trail of blisters or bug tracks. I think I can cut and buff it to, as they seem no be solid. I wished I'd taken the time to build a water knockout header like the one you and I discussed way back when, but they weather has been so perfect... Then halfway thru the job it changed. Sumofa!!! But, it worked out in the end.

Thanks again man. Good luck on yours!

Yeah,It does look really nice from the pics. I'd be giddy. Since we're technically in the same path of most fronts, (with you getting it first) I was thinking about whether or not you had ran into the humidity change and rain before getting done and whether or not that was dealing you any problems. Because by the time I took the pics of my lights yesterday the air was wet.

I think I'm gonna draw conditioned air out of my house when the time comes, because you and I both know that in a month, there'll be no such thing as a low humidity day.

The very first paint job I attempted myself was a two tone red/white lacquer job on a Fairlane back in the early 80's. It was raining.
But I went and did it anyway.
That car blushed so bad, the red paint turned pink, and the white looked like chalk.
I was able to color sand and buff it back to the actual color, but not before a few Yosemite Sam minutes after it dried.
