As you all know, my tires SU...CK. So some questions on tires ....

I have got to buy better tires. Even though my BFG Comp ta VR rated tires are showing tread, they have NO NO NO grip! So I was going to go with these:

"Yokohama AVS ES100"

Front: 245/45ZR17
Rear: 275/40ZR17

/or/

Front: 275/40ZR17
Rear: 275/40ZR17

So what's y'all opinions on 2 different size tires on the car? Bad idea? I was thinking saveon weight with smaller tire in front but I may be screwing myself on handling..

Are you running stock 8" wide wheels? If so those sizes should work fine. I run 255's up front on my 8" Cobra's and 275's in the rear, and it handles quite good and predictably. As for the Yokahama's, I thought I remember reading a bunch of complaints on those having no grip either, but I might be thinking of a different tire. I run Firestone Firehawk knock-offs (Fuzion ZRi's) and they provide decent grip for the price. I will be looking for something better next time though.

I've got Nexen N3000 255/40/ZR17's on all 4 corners. Treadware #'s: 340/AA/A. It cost me $350 shipped for a set from ebay. They are good, well performing tires (even for cheap ones and for a no-name brand).

I like having 275/40/17's on front and rear on my car. It's nice because you can actually rotate them and it's a lot of grip for the front end.

Try possibly Advan neova Ad07's
Falken Azenis RT-615's (what I run )
Bridgstone Potenza RE01R's
(although they only come in a 245/45/17)
BFG G-Force KD's
Kumho Ecstasa MX (if your on a tight budget)

You mentioned handling was important and neither of these tires will dissapoint. However I personally wouldent run more than a 255 width tire on an 8 in. wide wheel (in our sidewall ratios at least).

i think 275 on the front looks to big it sticks out of wheel wells slightly and im picky about that ...a good size combination is the 255/45 and 275/40 they are practically the exact same height. i think you would like it better then 245 up front

I did a side-to-side comparisson of both a 255/40 nad 255/45 next to the 275/40's in order to make my decision. You can go with either one for the front, but I found that the 255/45 was alot closer to the height of the 275/40. The 255/45 will fill the wheel well better and make the car look lower than it is somewhat. And lastly the 255/45 will have a bit more sidewall height, and therefore "give" over bumps, possibly resulting in a smoother ride.

i just put 275 Nitto 555R drag radials on my 2 rear rims (17x8), they look perfect. Nittos run small, I think a 275 in Nitto is right around a 255 in Michelin for example. If you're stuck on running a 275 I wouldn't get any brand other than Nitto.

Many of the tires I posted arent super expensive like the kumho's. If you have a discount tire near you I always lowball or ask for discounts and they will do stuff for you. For example I got $100 off my falkens just by talking to the right person (aka the store manager). Plus if you get a credit card from them you can usually get 6 mo. 0% financing so you have time to pay them off. Somehow they always keep me from buying my tires from the TireRack... I guess the sales department is doing their job.
