automatic trans? upgrade? Beefy? what can be done smhh

Kind of need to know your specs and goals. If theyre in your sig, my appoligies, can't see them on mobile.

appreciate your input see i kind of developed a passion for cars as i got older and regret running around in the woods while my step-dad fixed my moms old 88 fox in the garage i did attend a highschool tech program so i understand some of the science and rules so im not gonna try to come off as a know it all and offend all these very knowledgeable techs and ppl alike haha but my basic plan for my 1991 notch is to restore it add my body/cosmetic mods and beef it up to back up the looks because im in between on the art of building a car for looks/comfort vs power so my plans are to meet in the middle. so i have my suspension, brakes and engine and tuning plans, i want to use a stock bottom end with aluminum heads, and a supercharger kit , and bbk lower intake manifold. i want to achieve anywhere from 350-375 horsepower, my problem is i wanna retain ride quality and daily driveability my suspension kit im planning on buying meets in the middle but im not sure what can be done to the automatic trans to maintain comfort and ride quality but still take off like a race car and handle the extra hp!!! any suggestions comments help insults idc would be greatly appreciated im just trying to take in as much as possible and again i kno a good bit but not the specifics so id appreciate an explanation for dummies if possible

A 12-line post with only two full stops. What happened to the spelling and grammar?
Anyway, what mods have you done so far? It isn't cheap to build up a tranny and unless you know a really good shop, you're better off getting an AOD that's already been built to handle much more HP e.g. Lentech.

I'm gonna suggest a 4R70W and ditch the AOD cause the AOD's even the good ones aren't all that great The 4R70W is a better built transmission from the get-go The only problem with the 4R70W is that it needs a controller because it is not hydraulically controlled and shifted like the AOD is rather it's electronically controlled Best of all the 4R70W gives the opportunity to shift manually 1-2-3-4 or leave it in drive and let it shift itself and you set the shift point with the controller say for instance if you want it to shift at 4500 like a stocker then you set it The AOD can be built pretty tough but by the time you spend $1500 on rebuilding plus the core plus the converter plus the modifications you still have an AOD which still isn't as strong as a 4R70W is period .

;)

I agree, i wouldn't put any money into a aod transmission, better known to me as doa.

Get the best of both worlds. Build the aod with 4r70w internals. you just need the right shop. Hunt in your area and you might find what i did,all local shops ended up recommending one shop in particular. Aod's are much better understood were the weak points are and they have come up with allot of solutions for them. Ther are allot of street/strips running aod's now and to build one that will handle 600 hp is very common. Just shop around.

what would i have to modify to put in a manual trans?

And it also weighs 80 to 90 more pounds too.

Nobody said anything about saving weight!Besides if weight was a factor to me,i would put my C4 in thats on the shop floor. But i'm done with gutting out rattle trap foxes and going stright!I'm going for the all around car this time around. This notch is so so comfy and quite to ride in! peace
