Just got my new cam and was wondering if anyone knew how much power it picks up on a stock motor. Mods are in my sig and I'm still running the stock TB, bottom end, and heads.

Sup, Woody, still sporting the capri I see? Anyways, back to your question..........I run an E-303 in my 89 SSP, w/ just a 190 lph pump, headers, TB, Mass air meter, and injectors it made 18.4 hp more at the wheels and the power range was changed greatly.

That's about what I was expecting. I'm hoping with the cam and new 4.10's(which will be installed shortly), I'll be able to run in the low 13's on motor alone. By the way, are you heading to FFW in Ennis next month? I'll probably just run in the True Street class again.

I'll be there, we will be running the quick ford bracket stuff. We will be sporting the Mercury power, 1979 Zephyr 306, 14.3's on motor.......13.0's on a 100 shot.......11.70's on the 200 shot. see ya there.

Alright, I'll see you there. Anyone else got any input about this cam?

Yeah - but you won't like my input. The E303 is the same as Crane's PowerMax 2040 - Crane designed it for Ford Racing. Here's what they recommend with it:

GOOD MID-RANGE AND STRONG TOP-END POWER, REQUIRES MODIFIED MASS AIRFLOW, AFTERMARKET INTAKE, PERF. CYLINDER HEADS AND HEADERS, MUST USE 5-SPD AND 3.55 OR NUMERICALLY HIGHER REAR GEARS. REQUIRES CRANE SPRINGS AND RETAINERS. (50 STATE LEGAL 85-93, C.A.R.B. E.O. D-225-46) BASIC RPM 2400-6000

I think it's a terrible match for a stock-headed car. The stock heads are intake biased in flow, and would really like a split duration cam that helps the exhaust side. The 110LSA frequently gives folks fits with regard to idle quality; and while you may pick up a bit of peak HP, you'll lose significant bottom end torque. For a basically stock motor, there are MUCH better choices. If you insist on going forward anyway - be sure to upgrade your valve springs. The stockers are notorious for floating with the E, especially if they're tired.

I'd look at the CompCamsXE258 or XE264.

I did forget to mention that I'm also changing out the valve springs and retainers with a set from Crane that handles up to a .550" lift. About the only thing thats done to heads are that they were slightly milled and I ported out the exhaust a bit. I pretty much have all of the mentioned upgrades and will be stepping up to 4.10's from my 3.73's.

I had problems with the E cam and the Crane valve spring kit for stock heads. I was getting a lot of noise when the motor warmed up. Ford Racing said they were too stiff for the E cam. I went with the Ford Racing spring set and had no more problems. If you look at the specs there is a big difference in the two

sorry if i hurt anyone's feelings...
i have the e cam in my 95 gts and i hate it. i have run low 13's on street tires with it but the cam sucks on the street. the low end power on the thing seems pretty weak compared to other cams on the market which also offer better mid/high range.
but if the budget is tight then do what you can. i was told to switch my cam to a steeda #19 before my engine went in because it was designed for 94-95stangs which need more vacuum at idle. i thought that, that was a bunch of bs but i do regret it now... and presently i can not afford a cam swap so i am stuck with it
