It probably would burn a lot of peoples arses, but it could be worse. Think mid 70's - early 80's. Those cars had hardly any horsepower.
The only way I could be happy about a 3.5L EcoBoost GT is if it was AWD.One thing I have noticed is all the current 3.5L EcoBoost models are AWD. It really does give me hope. You know how things go though, I will probably just be disapointed...
Wanna talk about disappointed? You should've seen the tears I shed when I found out the new Camaro was going to weigh 3850 lbs. I had every intention of getting one. I was probably just going to suck it up and accept the "Hot Wheels" look of it, but the weight was too much to bear.
I always had this "dream" of custom-ordering a brand new Camaro, but GM stuck a fork in that one. That's okay because Ford's building me the car that GM wouldn't; a car like the Mustang!If Ford puts the Eco-Boost in the GT, I can accept that, but what I really want is a V8 GT. Even the best V6 isn't a substitute for the feel of a good ol' American V8.
Yeah, I hope the GT remains V8. With everything I have been reading though, I wouldn't be surprised to see V6 EcoBoost.
I would be surprised however if they replaced the 4.0L with 2.0L EcoBoost, kept the GT a V8 (5.0L) and the Shelby a SC 5.0L/5.4L or 6.2L, all while also offering the 3.5L EcoBoost. 4 engine offerings...not likely.
Like I said though, I will still be disapointed if they offer the 3.5L EcoBoost and it isn't AWD. Which is probably what will happen.
and under 3600 lbs.!!! LOL!While I think it would be an interesting idea to make an AWD Mustang, I just don't think it would be cost-effective for Ford to do it. It would probably require an entirely different platform. I voted that it would be a cool idea, but I probably wouldn't buy one.
Even though it would be interesting to see an AWD option, I'm not going to lose a minute of sleep if it doesn't happen. As far as me, I wouldn't even give it a glance. For me, when I'm in the market for an American Muscle Car, I refuse to settle for anything but RWD, manual transmission, and a V8.
More food for thought:
Fastest production Buick and still collector car today: Buick Grand National GNX. This was a 3.8L Turbo V6 with 276HP and 360 lb-ft torque.
Fords 3.5L twin turbo V6 is 355/365 hp (at 1100RPM higher than GNX) and 350 lb-ft torque (at 500RPM higher). That's almost 100 more horsepower with similar torque, granted at higher RPM levels. Not to mention, there is plenty of room for HP/Torque gains.
I will give you AWD might not be as fun (depends on your definition) to drive as RWD, but who wants to replace there tires every summer anyway? Fun for me is slamming the peddle down on wet or snowy pavement and having my vehicle jump off the line like it was a dry sunny day.
I went through tires like crazy in 2WD mode on my '93 Exploder. The Auto 4WD was welcomed on my '97. I couldn't even get that thing to spin the tires on wet pavement. Now my '01 doesn't have the Auto and I really miss it.
Hopefully I will be able to trade the '01 Exploder in on an AWD Mustang.
Doesn't quite work that way with AWD, at least not in my STi. I'm running a set of all-season tires on it now, and while yes, you can launch in the rain without wheelspin and drive it like it's a sunny day (in a straight line), in the snow, the tires will spin just like on anything else.
I think I could enjoy an AWD Mustang as long as it had a RWD bias....like maybe 35/65.
Hmmm...My wife has an '07 Impreza and it drive pretty good in the snow. It has 130 hp less than your STI though. Probably makes a difference. lol.
When driving normally does it do ok in the snow?

Well since i can't drive my mustang in the winter because it can't move id take AWD or 4wd in a secound, but only if i can put it into 2wd when i want, that would be fun.
EcoBoost gets a vote.
AWD does not.
Like what's been said, it is going to take a major revamp of the mustang platform to get it to work right. It simply wasn't designed with that in mind. Also, this being an "economical" sports car, I don't think ford would put in premium parts to outlast people's driving whims. Go ask about launching those AWD evo's or sti's. They require finesse and even then, that can lead to breakage. But I'm sure some already know of that.
I voted yes to the Ecoboost TT because like any turbo'd car, mods and huge hp gains are easily attainable with intake, exhaust, and most importantly a tune. If they offered even the 315hp version, 400hp minimum would be easy as pie with the correct tune.
