Axle Housing Bushings,Which ones????

i was under the stang the other day,looking things over.
noticed the axle housing bushings are cracked.
need to get a new set.
i dont want poly bushings,read they have a problem with binding.

rockauto has the raybestos professional grade on sale for $7 each.

maximum motorsports has a pair of genuine Ford bushings for $35.

what do you guys think?
have any of you guys used the bushings from the various parts stores(autozone,kragen,napa,ect...)?

Whatever is not made in China. Advance sells a BCA brand which is usually NTN bearings out of Japan. They are pretty good. The other good brand is SKF Swedish. You have to be careful with the SKF ones, because some are made in Mexico and South America. The NTN bearing is definately going to be good. Keep in mind, there are only about 4 major bearing manufacturers in the civilized world. Most brands just repackage these bearings.

Oh sorry, I must have been tired and misread that. I was talking about bearings. Are you talking about the bushings for the upper control arms in the axle?

the rock autos should be fine.

If you are changing them with the rear in the car get the tool from MM. It will make your life a lot easier. They are a press fit and basically impossible to get out with the rear in the car unless you have the tool.

i was thinking about that tool.

but,my ball joint press should work,i tried it on an old lower control arm the other day.

the bushing came out pretty easy.

not sure if im gonna go that way.

the MM tool looks like it will work much easier than the ball joint press.

You aren't kidding. I just did that job a few weeks ago on a Cobra. I didn't have any special tool, I just did it the old way with a drill bit. You just drill into the side of the bushing, and eventually the bit spins around the center shaft tearing all the rubber up. Unfortunately, you usually have to light the rest on fire to burn it all out.
