Hey guys got back from Jackson, SC about an hour ago and happy that I finally got to run my car but I was not happy with myself. In all I got about 8 runs in, but ill take the best from 3 runs. My first run was godawful at 15.435@82.29 with a 60foot of 2.180. I jumped the clutch, grinded 2nd and got back on it that i spun again. That 60 foot would remain the best of evening.

My best run for the night was a 14.306@99.51 wutg a 60 foot of 2.216. This was my 7th run btw. I brought the tires down to about 23 psi, stock khumos 285/45/17.

My first three runs, I kept shifting at redline, but after thinking about it I remembered that I should shift before it. Shifting shortly after 5 I managed to bring the trap to 99s for the rest of the evening. My best being a 14.318@99.71 with a 60 of 2.208.

I went to the track with a bunch of F bods, and it seemed that many Z 28s were running a lil higher then me so that was comforting, but Im still not happy.I gave the tires a lil roast everytime, nothing too long. Windows were up, everything off including traction control. It was cold as hell out there tonight and traction seemed a problem for everyone but whats new. On the good side, I won most of my races, the only ones I lost to were a new vette and a Z28. The Z28 had just been bought used and was bone stock but ran a best of 13.9@99mph. Bone stock! None the less winter is here and I have finally gone to the track so I had an idea of what I need to improve on. Altho I am disapointed with myself and how I ran for my mods.

As of right now im looking into a new catback, with some 2 chambers and maybe some shorties headers. Any advise or help would be good on what I can do or what are some good cat backs? Thanks everyone. I also have all my time slips if anyone has anyquestions about any of my runs Thanks again!

i was ur first time man, it'll get better. if z28's were "only" running 13.9's then i think ur times should be ok. ive seen stock z28's do faster than that.

if it was your first time, dont be disappointed, it takes some practice to start launching correctly and getting some lower times, you hit 14.3, thats the average time for a GT..

dont sweat it yet, just practice some more, you'll get the hang of it, and it wouldnt hurt to adding some other mods

I mean i thought with the 4.10s I would certainly have a good chance but oh well. Here is a pic i took with my cell of the car at the track nothing fancy, just my lil pic of glory that sayd ive been there and tried.

Man do those times suck. You need some driving lessons. With all those mods you have you can be running a mid 13 by now. But it was your first time at the track so I guess with a little practice you'll do better.

I was hoping for tips and ways of improvement, not enforcing of the fact I didn't do well. I didn't power shift, I was launching about 1500 to 2000 rpm letting the clutch out slowly rather then dropping it. I shifted shortly after 5000 rpm. Car had a 1/4 tank of gas.

4.10's aren't going to do crap for you if you can't get any traction. get some controll arms to help out with the traction issues.

Not bad. Your mph shows your car has more in it. Just like me you need more practice.

I wouldn't feel bad, you just need to get out there and practice some more. After I had my gears installed I had 7 runs that were 14.3. Finally someone pointed out I was launching at a funny place in the track. Just changing the place I launched from helped me out big time. Your problem could be as simple as that.

I would not sweat your times at all. I am afraid of what mine will be like when I get the chance to go to the track. Besides, anything you learn from can't be all bad!

I wouldnt be afraid to bet that alot of it is the cobra r bumper. Mine cost me 2-3 mph at the track.

BTW what problems did you have installing it, it says "severely modified in your sig" I had around 25 hours installing my bumper, hood, and spoiler. i was not very impressed with cervinis. Plus a friend of mine had to send his back because it cracked.

Just be proud of yourself that you tried. You will get better with practice. It's like anything else. Then after you have a few hundred runs under your belt, remember that you were new at it once too, like some people tend to forget. Just have fun.

Those times are not bad. I've been to the track just a couple of times and my first run was 15.31. My best time ever is a 14.10 with the mods listed below in my signature. I plan on returning to the track once I get my new KB 4.6L S/C kit installed. And BTW, ignore 01bullittstang.

Mine did not ever fit well to begin with but after a few speed bump, the air pressure on the highway got rid of it for me, so I cut it off in the broken area and modified it. No way it was that hehe.

How are most of you launching? It just boggles my mind that my best 60 foot time was the first run. If i hadn't botchech the run up then i coulda done some good. Obviously changing my shift points help me out a lot, but its my starts that killed me. Im looking at lower control arms and uppers too. Is adjustable really that much better?

What tires are you running? I can tell you now they suck. If you are running 2.1 60' then you need better tires. Get you some of the widest tires you can for the back ones. Also launch higher. Launch at 3,000rpms and slip the clutch alot. Will get you in the 2.0 or better 60' then after that shift where you should and you will get the time that you should. Also racing at this time of the year isn't going to be nice to you at all. The ground is cold and your hopes for traction are pointless. Wait until next year. When the ground is 70 degrees and up and you are still running slower than you should THEN you should get worried. But running 2.1 60' in 50 degree weather is usual. (all this applies unless you are running DRs or slicks)

also can you explain exactly what you did from the time you got to the lanes to the time you let off? It will help in explaining what you did and didn't do wrong. Did you fool with your tires at all?
