Bad Autometer Gauge?

I just had my new engine installed and have noticed that my Autometer Phantom temp gauge still reads high. Just for a quick background, my engine got nuked when I developed a short in my electrical system which killed my electric fan (and my engine with it) along with a few other electrical components. The gauge tended to read high before the work was done and is still doing so. It now has a new fan and t-stat and the fan is hooked up to a dc-control unit. The radiator is only a year old. Anyone ever see a gauge malfunction and read high? One last thing, the temp seems to go up if I drive fast or hit it hard, but goes back down at idle.

Check the temps with a different gauge/thermometer.

is it electric or mechanical? if its electrice i would say the sender might me bad or there is a air bubble in the cooling system. if its mechanical i would put it (sender) up to a thing of hot water and see how it reads.

if electrical, check the ground for resistance. good luck.

I've not heard the greatest about Autometer sometimes, could just be the gauge.

I guess I'll replace the sender before anything. Do I need to use an Autometer specific sender or is there a generic part # I can use?

i would contact AM and ask them. i imagine you will need a new sender from them, as the calibration is crucial.
