But about a week before we could leave, while we were dealing with our issues,an 80 year old woman decided to cut off my girl while she was driving the civic.all this put me in a serious financial hurting.

destroyed both wheel's,passanger side's done, some frame damage.estimate on repairs, right around $4,000.the old womans insurance wants to total it out.i bought it for $2,650 last year with 168,000 imles on it.the bad is it was a salvage title, the good is it was in excellent shape, everything worked as it should.the only down side was the paint.

when we spoke to the ins company yesterday, she said they were waiting for the estimate on how much the car's worth.she said it might be around $2,500.but she's not sure yet.

any tip's on how to handle this?

Ouch on all parts. IMO, the most important thing is to keep your relationship together - the Honda is nothing compared to you two. While the accident is definitely the SUCK, at least your girl isn't hurt.

How much you want to fight depends on how bad you want to keep the car and how much money you want out of it. If it was a Mustang, I would fight tooth and nail for it - already have TWICE for one of mine. For a Honda, I would let if go if I got about my money's worth out of it.

If you think you're getting reamed on the value, contact these people - http://www.appraisalgroupofamerica.com/. they helped me both times when an insurance company wanted to total my Mustang. The fee was $400, and well worth it.

You also may want to have the insurance company show you the damage. Play dumb like you know nothing about auto mechanics, and listen to what they say. Ask to see the frame damage. All cars are worth more money as parts, so the insurance company may be trying to get your car cheap so they can make money on selling parts.

today they offered $2795,i payed $2650 in 01/07.they think the car has 270,000 miles on it.i have a carfax that shows it had 160,000 miles when i bought it in 01/07.they want proof that it has 170,000 miles now.they want me to fax over the carfax as proof.

when they see the lower mileage,it should raise the value of the car.

what i'm worried about is,what if they dont know the civic was a salvage title.the carfax will show this, but would'nt they already know this?

if they dont know it's a salvage title, when the see it,would they lower their offer?

the car was just a DX,nothing special.i would be happy with $3300,maybe a little more.

if i prove the mileage,it will go in my favor.

I dont know if THEY know it's a salvage title.

if they dont and i show them it is,i could get screwed on the deal.:(

all thought's a welcome

Honesty is always best IMO, so send 'em the carfax. But couldn't they inspect the vehicle and check the current mileage on the odometer? To answer your question, yes they could lower their offer if they don't know the vehicle has a salvage title. However, the lower mileage should offset the lowered salvage value.

Insurance companies will try to screw you every time. You usually have to fight them to get what you deserve. :(

thank's Chythar.i'll send the carfax in the morning.before i do,i'll call them up and ask why the mileage did not show up when they checked the car history.

the ins. adjuster never saw the car, they had the guy at the repair shop look at the odometer(it's half-way between the 1 and 2).the adjuster i'm dealing with is located out of town.

in the mean time,i'm trying to talk my girl into a 87-93 fox body:D
