I have had my catted bassani x pipe for 5 months now. my check engine light came on the other day so i took the car to the dealer to check it out...im still under warranty. the dealer said the code is for the catalytic converter. He said one of the cats is bad. Now I have to pay one hour labor to the dealer because it is not covered under warranty even though they didn't change any parts. Bassani sucks...DO NOT BUY their x pipe with cats!

did you call bassani about this? They give a lifetime warranty on all their products and I would assume cats would be included with that. Call them and see if they'll refund your money for the shop's bill.

I plan on calling them when I get home from work...if they don't pick up the shops bill that is rediculous! For the amount of money their products are this should not happen!

Welp every company has a few duds here and there....

I highly doubt theyll pay for the labor but they should at least replace the pipe.

Thats sucks. I haven't had any problem with mine. If you know how to install them hopefully they can just send you another pairs of cats with no charge. The install shouldn't be a problem. But I do understand that it shouldn't go bad in the first place.

WTF? Hey, how about calling them before declaring on a national forum how much they suck? How can they help or provide fair & professional treatment if they do not even know that your are having issues? Then, if they treat you unfairly, grieve the process.

Happy with my full Bassani system so far. Some of the best products I've ever purchased. Service tech line was immediate and very helpful with my questions when installing it myself.

When the ford dealer calls you and tells you you have to pay them $90 for one hour labor because an aftermarket part that you spent over $400 on you're a little pissed off. I will reply to this post tonight after I call them and see how they handle this.

It's hit or miss on the cats. I certainly can't call Bassani "junk". I had the Bassani on for more than a year with absolutely no problems. Still going, but I changed to an O/R Dr. Gas.

You may want to read Bassani's website. Specifically where it states their catted pipes may cause a check engine light.

http://bassani.com/default.cfm?fuseaction=Catalog.warranty

Quote:

Installation of these products as intended in competition applications may require use of MIL eliminators or O2 simulators to avoid possibly setting a catalyst efficiency code, which will cause illumination of your vehicles' "check engine" light. This is due to the inability of currently available after-market converters to emulate the exact operation of factory OEM converters in late model year OBDII emission monitoring/ control system applications.

Summary: You are SOL.

Get a pair of MIL Eliminators for $29.95 and be done with it. You can't blame Bassani when it specially states on their website that their catted pipes may cause a CEL.

Lastly, why on earth are you taking your car to a dealer when a ton of places scan for free...

This kind of chit has happened to me before with other companies. The very first thing I do is call them and talk. If, and when, they cannot reach a resolution, then it is maybe okay to express your opinions on a public forum. You will probably not find too many supporters of a "Bassani has crappy quality" slogan. Everyone I have ever talked to has had nothing bad to say about Bassani and they all have agreed that Bassani has the BEST quality.

I guess that is why I have Bassani headers and mid-pipe for the last 6 months; and very happy with it. As a matter of fact, when I ordered the headers from Bassani, they forgot to send me the graphite gaskets. I called them immediately, and they were on my doorstep the NEXT MORNING!

I took it to the dealer because the light came on and I would have never thought it was the cats that I just put on several month ago. It does look like I am SOL. You would think for the amount of money Bassani charges they would make sure this doesn't happen. This just gives me a good excuse to buy a new pipe, I'm thinking of buying the UPR off road pipe, can't beat that price. 2 questions though...where do I get MIL eliminators for $29.95??? And who scans the computer...autozone no longer does???

Before you go screeming about Bassani you should have done a little research. You might have a bad cat but it most likely has to do with a smaller window of operation on the 01 on up computers for emission. The same thing has happened to me and several other people all you have to do is get mil eliminators and be done with it just as mentioned above.

My light came on after about 800 miles with the Bassani catted x-pipe and I got the mil's reset the computer and went to a friends shop to do a sniffer test just to see if it was a bad cat and it was very clean. 30,000 miles later I've never had another light or another problem.

I can understand your frustration and being out $90.00. There have been posts on here since I started frequenting the board about the quality of the cats on the Bassani pipes. Looking around here and asking a few questions can often times get you the info you need before you find yourself in a bind.

I have had help with installing my midpipe, LCA's, plenum and various other parts just by asking here. Also, if you talk to Bassani and they are unwilling to help you out, we have a thread over in talk about the best and worst online parts stores/suppliers. Just lay out your overall experience there - folks take a look at it. Might be a chance to save someone else a headache in the future.

Just a couple ideas.

Well your first mistake was taking it to the dealer. It may be you just need to add mil elimiators. you should actually call bassani. how can you bitch about a product before you even call them. Some aftermarket cated midpipes do require mils.

Basanni's are known for tripping the engine light. This is why Steeda switched to magnaflow catted pipes

$90 for a quick scan is an outrage. Avoid the dealer as much as possible.
