Sorry to hear about your luck. I learned the hard way, too, after paying Ford $90 to ultimately clean the IAC on my car (something that can be accomplished in 5 minutes with electric contact cleaner).

It's very common to get a check engine light with a catted high flow Bassani X-pipe. Just get some mil eliminators.

You should seriously do some more research before buying a product next time. When I bought my Bassani catted x-pipe I knew that I ran the risck of getting a CEL so if it had come up I would have had an idea of where to start. Don't bash a company known for it's quality because you don't read the fine print.

Never go to the dealership with a modded car. Removing working cats from a vehicle is a and they could have voided your warranty because the pipe tripped the CEL.

If I ever have to go to the dealership Im making sure to swap the obvious things back in so they wont give me any crap (ie- Off road midpipe, CAI, KnN etc.)

I think someone also mentioned earlier that there was different range for catalytic efficiency after 2000. Anyone else have any info on this? I have had no problem with my Bassani catted x on my '00 vert. If in fact the 01+ works on a tighter parameter this would explain a lot.

What everyone said above is true. Before you badmouth a product, person, or a company, do a little research and find out what your problem may be.

If you can't find the answer, call the company or person and inquire about your problem. 9.9 times out of 10, they know the answer or have already fielded a question such as yours.

And FYI, Bassani does not suck, they don't even come close to sucking. As everyone had already stated, their products are top notch. The CEL is a risk you take when running a high flow catted pipe. I had a catted X, and still have their catback, and got nothing but compliments on it. The fit, finish, and construction were and still are top notch. I switched out the X for an O/R X and longtubes, but that's another story.

The least you should have done is to have made a post here asking for assistance.

No offense, but now you've made yourself look silly by making a crap post like this.

You run the possibility of a check engine light with any aftermarket cat setup on an OBD-II car. The OBD-II reads the exhaust before & after the cats, so it knows if they're not cleaning the exhaust enough. OBD-I had the o2 sensors before the cats only. The rear o2's on an OBD-II car are called "catalyst monitors" for a reason.

This brings me to a question.
I will need to get my car inspected next month. My check engine light is on because of "below catalyst threshold" or i.e. my cats are bad. If I get MIL eliminators do you think my car will pass the OBD-II test? I would rather pay a small amount for those then have to buy a new pipe.

I realize that I should have researched this before hand. I also just looked at the parts reviews here and realized there are MANY people with the same problem. I should have read this before I bought the part but I didn't. I always thought Bassani was a high end brand that made quality products. For all of you on here who have posted saying its my fault just buy MIL eliminators you must all have low quality standards. I realize all I have to do is buy MIL eliminators to shut off the light but thats not the point. When I spend over $400 for a catted x pipe I expect NOTHING but the best. For Bassani's high prices there should not be this common problem. I can understand a dud here and there...but take a look at parts reviews...there are tons of people with my problem. I just ordered my UPR off road X and MIL eliminators for less than half the price of my Bassani X. This has been a good lesson for me, and my stance is still firm...Bassani products are over rated and not worth the money.

You paid $90 dollars to have your SES light checked? or for them to reset the computer?(is the SES light still on?)

As everyone has already mentioned...you should have done your homework first and expected something like this.

There's no way Bassani is going to pay for that service bill and I'm sure as well your cats are fine.

Just get the mils.

I had an '88 GT with a Bassani X-Pipe w/cats and the cats never died out on me. Call Bassani up, they are good with what they sell. I love Bassani exhaust parts

This is ridiculuous. Bassani has always been known to be the best in exhaust parts quality. Just move on and use this knowledge to prevent any similar losses in the future.

Go to the reviews here on stangnet and look at the other X pipes....how come bassani is the only aftermarket x pipe with cats that seems to have this problem??? It is NOT because of high flowing cats...it is because of Bassani's high flowing cats, as some one else said...this is why steeda no longer uses bassani. And as for spending more money on a "lesser quality" product...is it lesser quality because its cheap??? Read these boards and find the negative posts about the UPR X pipe...goodluck!

I'm not going to jump in the middle....ok I will.

I had heard about a year/year and a half ago that there was an issue for Bassani cats. They were having issues with the coverters burning out and they switched manufacturers.

I don't know if Ryan had the old or new version, but I just thought I would pass some info along.

*BTW I can't remember who told me this...I think it was a shop down in MS or AL....might have been JMS...not sure.

all aftermarket parts have some downside to them. These are low emissions vehicles and anything less than four cats will cause a light sooner than later.If they cant make aperfect product then dont buy it.You either buy a o/rpipe or leave it alone.
