looking into buying a BBK adjustable cable w/ quadrant and firewall adjuster. cj's has it for $110. looking to get faster smoother shifts. is this a good deal or does anyone have any other recommendations? thanks

+1 for Maximum Motorsports. Call them up and ask about their clutch cables and they'll tell you why they sell the equipment they do. I replaced two broken BBK cables with MM cable, quadrant, and adjuster. No problems since after half a year.

I bought the BBK kit. The quadrent and firewall adjuster are nice pieces. And I never had a problem with the BBK cable i had over 2000 miles on mine and not a single problem it's actually now on my buddies car without an issue.

The reason cables break is because you're not running a matched set and something is not compatible. You could argue the BBK cable isn't the best quality or whatever. What I found is the BBK (and most aftermarket cables) have a rubber isolator on the firewall end. Over time, this gets crushed and puts a kink in the angle where it meets the clutch quadrant. Then, either it'll snap one day without warning, or it may rub and fray against the cable opening.

I went with Maximum Motorsports after talking with them about my problem. I broke two cables after about 4000 miles each. It turned out the previous owner incorrectly installed the quadrant without supporting washers, so it was not aligned properly and put stress on the cable. It's been close to 10k miles since MM supplied me the cable, FW adjuster, and quadrant, so I think the problem has been solved. They use an OEM quality cable and it's not much more than the aftermarket brands.

ok so what washers did you use and where did you get them from? i think this may also be part of my problem.

I would hope every kit included the washers to correctly install the quadrant but I suppose that's not guaranteed, the maximum motorsports kit and I'd assume just the quadrant come with the appropriate washers. They are regular washers you'd find at any hardware store.

+1 on the bbk crap quality. I bought the kit from them, quadrant, adjuster and cable and the cable binds up! Haven't even gotten the car on the road and the cable crapped out. I bought a stock cable to go along with the aluminum quadrant. I haven't tried it on the adjuster, not sure if it'll work on the stock cable......
