BBK or MAC LT Headers w/Midpipe ??? 04 GT

yeah,the BBKs are a rip off. I got my Macs for a little over 200 and havnt had any problems with them. I sprayed some high temp paint on those suckers and they look almost new.

Why is BBK a rip off? I heard the LT headers and highflow x pipe were a great combo.
 
if you don't have garage in your backyard the install is going to suck i personally would go with the macs but to each is own an i know plenty of people who like bbk so the choice is going to have to be yours
 
MAC products are garbage, they are poorly made and have most definitly not withstood the test of time


I have the BBK long tubes, they are awesome, i got the ceramic coating on them and after over 15k of miles they still look brand new.

just remember , you get what you pay for
 
Mac is now doing the ceramic coating on their LT's, so that might be a good choice. They're a nice amount cheaper than the ceramic BBK's.. But, unless you like your headers turning colors, don't get chrome :notnice:
 
I personally wouldnt go with MAC... I know some people run them without problems but it is such a pain to install them I think I would spend the extra money on the BBK's. I have been running mine for well over a year with zero problems, but if I had it to do over again I dont know that I would go with BBK either. The ceramic coating has all come off on the underside of the car by the collectors and now they are kind of rusty...
 
I'm trying to decide as well, unfortunatley I had Hooker Super Comps on my classic (347) and they were killer ($500).

Now I need some LT's for my 4.6L and the Super Comps are $770 skins........ That's a lot of coin for headers........

That is total BS. I have plenty of MAC products on my car and all have been top notch and ZERO issues. EVERY bbk part I have ever stalled on cars have been a major pain in the ass and quality has always been subpar.

Rip off because of their Ceramic coated long tubes go for 400+ at most places who sell them.
 
While I've heard many many stories about Mac LT's, and how their THT coating don't stand up too good over time, I guess their cermic coated LT are pretty good i guess. All my experience with Mac has been pleasing one(except TB. they were little sub-standard)
I myself went with coated BBK, and their H pipe. Mainly because I got it for one heck of a deal(brand new Out of box with all the hardware for $350). But when I was at Carlisle, i seriosulynconsidered about picking up coated Mac. They didn't have it there. Buut I would have picked it up otherwise.

Witht that being said, I'm very very happy with BBK. Fit was great, and perform good, and with ceramic coating, look good too. While I guess Mac LT doesn't require you to take dip stick out, its really like 15sec extra(thats if your dropping K member) task
 
If your mechanically decent, U can do it your self. While its time consuming, its not hard. you'll need basic hand tool, some beer, may be a weekend, and some determination.

Fnsweet have good write up as to how to install LT(which I used) that are excellent
 
Another thing you can figure into the cost is a new clutch... I wish I would have done it at the same time, as now I am looking at doing a clutch and in order for me to drop the tranny it looks like I will have to remove the passenger side header to do this. That being the case if MAC's are different and you dont have to remove the header to drop the tranny I would go with MAC's. Also plan on buying some heat wrap tape to wrap your starter while you are there. Some people dont do this but its cheap insurance in my opinion. I wraped my starter just to be on the safe side...

No Mac have to come off to do clutch as well. But your right. If your car have decent milege on it, Do clutch as well. I didn't, and clutch went month later. that sucked. But once you do LT install your slef, its actualy pretty straight forword. I can do clutch install now in less then 5hours.... I must tank Spec for my steep learning curve:notnice:

If your LT is ceramic coated, I don't think heatsoak is going to be an issue. I haven't had any issue with it yet
 
I have had both MAC LT's and BBK LT's. I have the BBK's now because my MAC's were garbage. I personally did not like them. Had a header leak, ticking at start up, weird idle, and some other strange noises. Decided I didnt want them anymore and swapped out to the BBK's. MUCH Better! I love them and have ZERO of the problems I had with the MAC's. You can even tell the quality difference, the BBK's looked much cleaner and not as rough as the MAC's. The BBK's also have an indentation for the steering shaft. A little bit more attention to detail. I am very happy with them and got them for a great deal off ebay brand new with an O/R H, $400 shipped for both. I'd go BBK, you dont read about problems people are having with their headers, rather the problems people have with the MAC's as some have stated in this thread. Then their are those who get lucky and have no problems, its up to you if you want to take that chance. Just my .02
 
All of ya'll were very helpful.. .Thank You.... I have numerous other parts from BBK on my car and I love them.... I was just wanting to compare the 2 headers. I guess after reading this, I am going to stay true to BBK and continue to do business with them.

I got Flowtechs as they are made by hooker. Not expensive, but they are also not ther best header out there. They are good for their price.

I rather not have to remove a passenger header to do a clutch change. Granted I already did one this past week. I have had BBK's before and didn't like them.
