Hello,

I apologize up front for the long whinded thread

I just picked up an 02 GT this month after selling my 94 GT last year. It's bone stock with 30,000 miles. My first mod;s this past week were the Ford PRO 5.0 shifter and the BBK X-O/R midpipe. My headers and catback are still stock. My reasoning behind the BBK X pipe is because I had one on my 94 GT along with Flowmasters catback, stock headers and loved the sound of it (not sure which series, they were on the car when purchased).

Heres my dillema. A)The install did not go well because Mustang Unlimited gave me a package of MIL eliminators that were 2 of the same adapters. I didnt relaize this until the pipe was on the car. I couldnt plug in my 02's from the pipe to the car because the wires were wayyyyy to short. So I wrapped them in tinfoil and a plastic baggy until today, I didnt want debris and crap getting in them, and it was for a small period of time. The 02's up front are extremely taught and I had to buy extensions today when I swapped out the MIL eliminitors. Everything just seems to not fit right. Is it possible they gave my the wrong X-Pipe and it barely fits? I'm taking it off the car tomm to see if there is a part number on it to distinguish. B)IT SOUNDS LIKE CRAP!!!! It sounds like something is vibrating somewhere, almost like a tin can or a rice burner. It's only when I jump on the gas. If I slowly step on it, it sounds great (to me). I was wondering if it could be the stock mufflers? I heard some say that baffled only goes well with some mid pipes and straight thru pipes go well with others? Also, this may sound ignorant, but what would be the difference between a BBK, UPR, Steeda, Borla, etc.. O/R X-pipe in regards to sound? Its metal, its an X and its uncatted right? I know some are stainless steel and some come in 2 or 3 pieces for easier install...... but do they really sounds different and if so why? I know in my 94 GT it was a 5.0 and this is a 4.6. So maybe if I setup my exhaust on this GT the same way it was on my 94 (Stock Headers, BBK X-O/R, Flowmasters catback) it would sounds about the same?

And yes, I know most people HATE BBK in general

If I left any info out that may help, pls let me know. Sorry again for all the reading.

Well, if you got BBK O/R X for your carsound like crop, then you got the right pipe.
I never heard 5.0 with X, so that i don't know how it would sound(remenber, 5.0 was OHV, were as 4.6 is SOCH - 2 completely different set up), But almost all BBK O/R X i''ve heard sound like an ass. Sound like pissed off ricer on drugs with BB's stuck in the pipe somewhere.
I like BBK in general. But man, I HATE their OR X pipe on our car.

First mid pipe i got was BBK O/R X. Hated it. took it off after 2 days. Bought ProChamber instead.
And i now have BBK LT and BBK H. and love it so far.

here is link tosound clip of BBK o/r with magnaflow and stock manihold. identical to set up i had. as u can hear, it sound like ASS!!!

I got a MAC O/R H pipe and I love it! Fits too, unlike the BBK X pipe I tried before. It was too short connecting to one of the flanges to the headers (which are BBK) and I tried 2 different pipes with no luck. The MAC fit perfectly!

Yeah, I guess I'm stuck with the crappy BBK pipe for the meantime. I definitely have some more ponies which makes up a lil bit for the crappy sound. I guess I will go with an H-Pipe with the 4.6. I am going to post a video of my 94 5.0 with the BBK and a video of my current situation, 4.6 with BBK. That way, anyone looking to get BBK X-Pipe will at least have some kind of reference.

Thats a matter of opinion I have a BBK X-pipe and love the way it sounds! It sounds mean as hell, everyone hears my car always asks me what kind of exhaust I have, That's what I get the most compliments on. Maybe it's just to loud for you? I personally love my exhaust setup!

+1 My MAC O/R H installed great, sounds awesome and all the O2 sensors reached just fine. Get a MAC.

you shouldnt have a problem with the o2 sensors since yours isnt an 04.

have you tried to remove the plastic screw that holds the sensor clip to give yourself a few more inches?

and yes, bbk o/r x sounds like poop.

No way is this to loud for me. It's actually not loud enough. Like I said, my 94 had BBK X O/R and Flowmaster mufflers, sounded awesome and obnoxiously loud, just the way I like it. What do you have for catback/mufflers? Do you have stock headers also?

Stangless,

I did pop out the plastic screw that holds the O2 sensor onto the body. Thats how I got it connected on the pass. side, the driver side was fine. The ones in front of the cats, by the headers are the worst, those I could hook up, but rediculously tight, which is why I bought the extensions.

I'm going to get the Flowmasters and put those on. I think maybe my stock mufflers are the issue at this point.

I couldnt have said it better myself. Now everyone can say "Itold ya so"...lol. I had the BBK O/R X with my stock mufflers and it sounded just like mity2 says. I figured it was a loose baffle or something wrong with my stock mufflers. So I installed my American Thunder catback last weekend, started it up and liekd it. I think I was enjoying the new sound delivered by the Thunder catback and didnt notice much that the crappy sound was still there. After a week of driving around, I can definitely here the crappy BB, ricer sound of the BBK X Pipe. I'm going to get the UPR O/R X Pipe as I want to keep the X relative to the H setup. I'm going to record a sound clip today and will post this weekend of the current setup.

You should try the MAC offroad Prochamber. I promise you, you will love it! It will smooth out the sound of the flowmasters. Powerwise, it should be about the same as a x pipe. They are a little pricey, but you might get lucky and find one on ebay. That is where I got mine.

A few examples...

I would also consider the Pro Chamber. I have not heard a combo that I like better than flows and a pro.

I have the BBK O/R X on my 01 GT with 40 Series Flowmaster mufflers and I think it sounds great.

It definitely wasn't as easy as it could have been to install though. My rear O2 sensors were a bit tight, and I had to pop the front sensor wires off of the upper section tranny housing where they were originally mounted to make them reach.

when you bolt up the mid pipe start at the manifolds and tighten them first. then work your way back tightening the bolts as you come to them. my O/R x leaked badly b/c i didnt go thru the correct process of tightening the bolts!

All I can say is the 2' 1/2" BasaniX cat'd X pipe + cat back system sounds really good too.

Fit was was also very good zero problems and it's been on for about 6 weeks now.

I didn't like the flowmaters "Drone" series they only sounded good untill I hit the hwy
