Beers Of Stangnet

I go through moods on what I like. IPA's aren't that great to me at the moment, but they will be again.

Lately it's just been full malty flavors that I like.

My boss at work thinks he's buying beer when he gets Bud Light.....yet when he gives me one, I'll drink it.

Let's just say, I like beer.....

It's all about perceived bitterness which varies by person and type of beer. But IBU's are still the standard way to measure and communicate a beer's general bitterness. It's just a measurement of the isohumulone (isomerized alpha acid), in PPM, in the beer.

I would have to say that stating out of the two that an IPA would obviously be "hoppier" would be inconsistent also. If the pilsner was dry hopped, it would tend to have a "hoppier" flavor to most people. There is definetely more factors to consider than IBU's, but it's still a good way to measure and try to communicate a bitterness without actually trying a beer. I find its way more consistent than asking a person if the beer they just drank is hoppy. People's tastes are way more inconsistent. But thats me....

I said more "bitter." Most definitely a dry hopped pilsner could carry through some hop flavors over a bland IPA. The again, I suppose if someone were to brew a terribly dry pils it could be more bitter than a west coast IPA as well, but . . no thanks!

The IBU, as you said, is a way to measure the isomerized alpha acid in the beer and nothing more. Many drinkers assume that relates directly to the actual bitter taste of the beer.

An example I often use is Sierra Nevada's Bigfoot Barleywine at 90 IBU's. While it's an American Barleywine and therefore a little more hoppy than it's English cousins, it most certainly isn't a very bitter beer. Especially after some time in the bottle.

Ha ha, I see the Raging Bitch all the time around these parts...helps when you're only about an hour from the brewery. I don't think I've had that one from them though..how is it?

I've got a trip coming up this weekend that will be taking my and my girlfriend to one of the brewing capitals of the country - if not the world - Denver. We're planning on checking out some microbreweries while there of course...and I'd sure love to get a good steak.

The RB is better after you have made it halfway through the bottle. By the third one, it's pretty dang good!

Dirty Bastard is one of my back up beers.

I had RB before, it's just been long enough that I forgot. I'm becoming a dottering old fool:drool:.
