well....what heads do you guys think are the best bang for the dollar?

well personally trickflow twisted wedges for a stock 5.0 but that is just and my opioion the porting that can be done too then there best for my money I think.

That depends....if you want bang for the buck just per HP,then Ill say the TFS "R" heads.

Victor Jr's seem like they would be good hp per dollar also.

For your 331, victor jr's would be the best bang for the buck. valve springs will be swapped too so budget that in

i have heard bad things about the vic jrs......but yes iam more specifically asking for my 331....it just feels like a waste keeping this thing behind the bars of e7s .

Bad things about victor jr's??? Sounds like you talk to morons

Heres an example of what victor jr's can do in a street car. http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2005/02/YellowFever/index.php

445rwhp n/a, yeah i'll take it More importantly, high 10's n/a shifting by 6,500. I talked to this guy and he was having some sort of issue and he could only shift around 6400-6500 due to the issue. Still went high 10's. Damn those heads suck

i have just heard that that dont flow as advertised out of the box and they are built really cheap

I've heard they don't flow what they advertise also, but that doesn't mean they still aren't a good head. I still like the Twisted Wedge head though for bang for the buck heads. The TW just has really great potential for something that can be used on a stock motor.

Best bang for the buck heads would be AFR185s for that 331.

185cc ports and 2.02 valves. Same price as the 165s, cant beat that.

The jr's will beat up on the 185's and may come out slightly cheaper. You asked for bang for the buck right? Not that the 185's are a bad choice, they're great but the jr's will make more power with the right cam.

I wouldnt worry about what you heard from guys who've never flowed a cylinder head. Do these "experts", who claimed the jr's dont flow what they're rated at, know if the flow test was done the exact same way edelbrock does their flow testing?

I would say for bang for the buck, the jr's or the new canfields would be what you should look at.

The Jr's that I have seen have not flowed what they advertise, many head porters who do a lot of Jr's will agree.

Now that doesn't make them a bad head, flow numbers are like dyno number...for bragging rights. Properly cammed a Vic Jr can work very well on your combo, I would clean up the exhaust and chambers a little before installing. I also like the new Canfields but it will need to be cammed properly to take advantage of what it has to offer. I saw the newer style castings a few months ago and they are very nice, full sand cast, and they should not have any of the issues the old style Canfields were known for.

Out of the box I still say AFR 185 but the 2 heads mentioned above will work just fine and may come in cheaper, depends on the CAM and CAM grinder. When you start to change springs, retainers, and locks it can get expensive.

i love AFR's i think they are the same price of the victor jr's i would go afr's alltheway and if you need more port them!

i love the tw's im a big fan however your pushin so much more air with your 331 i think you would need to port them right after you bought them i dont think its a good idea..... i think the jr's or the 185's would be best for your 331...

A done right twisted wedge head with the key area's fixed will EASILY pass an afr 185 but it will cost more. I talked to Ed Curtis about where my money would be best spent on my TW's and he said bowl work and a 'good' valve job. Then theres cleaning, assembly and new valve springs if needed so it gets costly!! Im not biased so i'd still suggest the jr's or the 185's. The tw's can easily outrun the jr's or afr's but it will cost you more like I said. I run tw's on my stroker as you know because I had them from my 302. had I been starting out with a new head, jr's would be sitting on top my block

I'm going to be pulling my heads once it warms up to redo my gaskets and head bolts and have the lower manifold milled to fit better. Unsure if i'll have FTI work on them a bit, sell them or bolt em back on as is. I kinda wanna work on this combo some more since theres a TON more in it so i'll probably keep them.

it just sucks being in college.....i have worked my butt off for this money and i dont want to see it spent on something that i will be kicking myself in the a$$ for later. I guess i can always wait till after i graduate and have a full time job making decent money...but im impatient
