Best head for bottom end

The cost is not as big a factor as making sure the car does what I want. If the Edelbrocks won't kill my bottom end, I would be a fool to pass them up. BUT, if the GT40Ys are a better velocity head (and I can find them)

I'd be better off to spend a little more and get them

Say it with me now...... Edelbrockkkkkkkkkk!

Edelbrocks it is. I bought them last night, along with Push rods, head bolts, timing chain, Gasket kit, fuel pump,.

Even with cheap heads, it's not a cheap project.

Will the Ford performance Head Gasket work with the Edelbrock heads?

I would think so, but you never know.

BTW Kerpal, I let you know what advantages and disadvantages I find from these heads.

Thanks to everyone for all the help/ suggestions.

Will the Foird performance Head Gasket fir the Edelbrock heads?

I would think so, but you never know.
Don't forget scotbrite pads(for cleaning block surface)
Brake cleaner
Fuel filter/retaining clips
spark plugs for the aluminum heads
Anti-sieze compound
Fluids/oil

The TW's have a slightly larger port and a bigger intake valve. Raw power is not what we are looking for in this situation. The AFR would make more lowend tq with a stock cam. The design of the TW's chamber is a lot more effient and from experience I have found the TW's to work a lot better....just not in this case. I would gladly trade my AFR 185's for an equally prepped set of TW's. I would say that I know quite a bit about the differences in the heads as I have tried most of them. Going back to the original point of the thread- the TW is a bit much and the AFR is borderline but probably not worth it for his application imo. I am not only familiar with the power numbers on paper but I am familiar with the output based on ET's and real life experience. Get off your couch and drop the magazines and get some real experience and #'s. Call Rick Anderson @ Anderson Ford and tell them how much better the AFR heads are and you will likely get the 20 minute lecture that I got. Also, how can you compare the quality of a TFS or AFR head to an Edelbrock or Ford cylinder head? That's crazy talk. Come on man. You're better than that.

If your talking to me, I didn't compare the heads to Eddy or the Ford heads. Edelbrock has got some darn good quality as well.

Sure if you "prep" a head to match the 185's...sure, anyone should take them.

The price is very similar. AFR's make great power, not only with a stock cam, but with a custom.

just use a 9333PT-1 head gasket .....did you get the pedestal mount heads ?

Update.

Well I finished the head install and it actually went pretty well. The tops of my pistons were more badly carboned than I imagined and it took a lot to get them spotless, but other than that it was relatively easy.

As far as performance goes, I'm VERY happy. The car pulls from pretty much the same power band as before
and just keeps on pulling. The long tube header are MUCH louder now than they were before the head install and car sounds as good as it goes.
The Edelbrocks may not be the best flowing head out there, but for what I was looking for, they rock. Lots of torque down low, and good breathing up top.

Cheers and thanks to everyone for the input.
