I have an 89 LX with GT40 upper and lower, E cam, long tube headers, and a supercharger (plus a ton of bolt ons). I am looking to upgrade my heads. What am I looking for as far as valve size, combustion chamber size, yadda yadda. I am looking for good all around performance on the street with the occassional trip (2 or 3 times a summer) to the strip.

I forgot to add, I am currently seeing about 6 lbs of boost and I plan to upgrade to an S Trim and possibly an F cam in the near future.

My bias vote is AFR 165's (stock pistons) or AFR 185's (aftermarket pistons).

The 165's have a slightly smaller valve at 1.90" on the intake and 1.6" on the exhaust.

The AFR 185's have a 2.02" intake valve and 1.60" on the exhaust.

Out of the box they flow ever so slightly better than Tw's...and in a few test have shown to make more 'average' power that other heads in it's class. I'm referring to the 165's. I went by my own research and Ed Curtis's advice (custom cam grinder).

They will probabaly run you around $1500 all said and done...depending on if you upgrade the cam or not.

Nice combo you got going!

Look in to the Tri state heads. They flow about the same as afr's.You can get a set shiped to you house for about $850.The valve spring that come on them should be fine with your e cam but i wouldn't trust them with a bigger one.

I went with the 165's and an FTI cam. Im still waiting for the cam and the car to come out of the bodyshop though.
I paid $1400 shipped on ebay for new AFR 165's with upgraded valve springs by Keith Craft Racing.

So between the 2.02's and the 1.95's, which is a better setup for the street. I want to still have good bottom end. I don't need to be shifting the car at 6500.

It's not really the valves to much for streetability...

The AFR 165's have 1.9's and the 185's have 2.02's.

165 valves fit fine with the stock pistons, but aftermarket pistons can fit the 185's valves...

The 165's will be just fine up to 6,500rpm...

if you are running stock pistons you cannot run 2.02 valves without fly notching the pistons , AFR165s , Edelbrock performer heads , holley or TF heads will all work great with the boost
