Best headers for AFR 140cc heads - DRAG!

Which headers do you recommend???
I'm buying headers for my built 5.0. I have AFR 140cc Heads. Trick FLow R intake, Which headers do you recommend??? Car will be 95% drag use, AOD, 83 GT. Emissions not an issue. Thanks.

AFR 140cc? Are you sure?

Whatever brand you go with, pay the extra coin for ceramic coating. Chrome just doesn't last very long and will eventually rust. Never buy painted headers.

The thing you have to determine is what STYLE of headers you want. Shorties or long tubes? Long tubes may have ground clearance issues, but are always better for performance. For shorties, you can get either equal length tubes or normal. Equal length shorties are supposed to make more power, but make installation and spark plug changes more difficult. You'll probably run into clearance issues with equals, too.

That said, I currently have equal length BBK shorties with a chrome finish. I know from experience how much chrome sucks. I do like the "burnt" look, but the chrome didn't take long to show spot rusting. Spark plug changes aren't impossible, but I do have clearance issues.

As far as the AFR's, the heads are stamped #147. On thier website it says these are bare heads. 140cc. Non ported. Does that help? Thx for the header info.

Oops my bad. I called AFR and found out the only stamp the final part # on one end of the head. They are 165cc Heads. They recommended JBA or MAC long tubes with 1.75". Agree?

That makes a LOT more sense. Typically bare, unported castings are for people who want to port/machine the heads to their own needs.

Like I said before, long tubes are the best for performance, and the people at AFR know best!

Id go with what the guys at AFR say. Those are some good heads for your app, should be pretty nice.

Agreed. They are 90% street, 10% race. But I got them for free with a stang I sold. So 165cc it is. Unless someone wants to swap me straight up for race heads????

Hey you cannot beat free!!! However I would sell them and put the money towards some TW or 185s. I got $1100 for my used AFR 165s.

The 165's will be fine as long as the motor is close to stock displacement (302). If you are running a stroker then I would say go to the 185's. I still run 165's in my car and it gets down the track pretty good. Tom.
