What are the best headers out there, in some of your opinions? Check out my sig, anyone know which would be the best for me? I have plans on getting SHM headers for like $280 (cheapest i've seen) and i plan to finish off my exhaust with MAGNAFLOW Magnapacks this summer. Let me know some of your opinions, and send me some links if you guys have good sights, thanks!

jba shorties are the only ones I have seen to kive any kind of power(9hp in a hotrod artical). then you have te bassani mid lenghts. I have seen no dyno data but have not looked hard then you have long tubes. The ones you see for $280 just really don't give you any power. 5hp tops. most likely 2-3hp. kind of a waste.

my .02 would be jba or longtubes. I may do jba just because I have a midpipe already. if you are starting from scratch it might as well do longtubes.

I should have mentioned that hooker longtubes alow you to pull the tranny. I liked the look of slp's longtubes but they are like $750. to me being able to pull the tranny would be a nice feature.

I heard that long tubes will not fit with an automatic transmission...or at least with the AOD-E/4R70W we have in our late model stangs. If amyone knows of long tubes that do fot please let me know!!

since you live in a place that doesn't have idiotic smog laws, get some long tubes. if you want the best shorties, get JBA's.

Mac fit, Hedman fit, and Hooker fit. BBK and Bassani don't.

Well my 98 GT is lowered a lot...so i hear i can't get L/T headers because iwill bottom out on the headers, even more-so than i do already (on the bottom of the car). I also have an Auto-Trans. Anyone know if JBA or Headman L/Ts would even FIT on my car around the trans (or the bassani mids too)...assuming they don't make me bottom out. As for the SHM headers...they are $280 and SAY they give about 5hp, even if they give me 2....im broke as ****, and think that it would be better to get those for $280 and replace these dinky stock ones as opposed to paying $700+ for 9hp ones....there is only about a 4hp diff....not worth an extra $500+...IMO (UNLESS its gunna sound better too) Then i'll pay the $$ . Send me some good sites for headers for a 98GT, maybe you guys can make me change my mind I'll look into those mid-lengths i think.

I used MAC LT's on my auto when I had my SOHC motor. They are awesome. They fit perfectly on auto trannies. You can also get them ceramic coated now.

BBK's LT's all the way. I've had them over a year and the only issue is some rust spots from condensation dripping on them from the A/C. I think you will get that with any of the headers though. I have the Ceramic coated ones too. The nice thick one piece flange and the quality craftsmanship. Never had any leaks even though a couple of weeks ago I rechecked the bolts and a few were loose. Love that extra low end grunt too.

If you want the best custom headers like KookS, but to spend that money I would have all my mods done to really take advantage of power and how much your gonna spend. LT's will fit on autos the Hookers and the headers made by Jet hot I know for sure have one for auto's and I'd recommend either one of these. The SLP ones look good but I have no personal expereince but they sure are pricey. I think the Jet hot LT's I was lookin at were $525 for an auto and they were coated already. The only thing that sucks if your not going to install them yourself is the install price look at around 400 dollars and upward.

Jba are $500 from the right place. basically bottom line the ford shorties from shm are not worth it. most likely 3hp on a n/a car. they are not a true header. that money can be spent better elsewhere. Now if you want headers with you auto and ground clearance is an issue. the jba are about the only option worth wile. pick up around 10hp for $500 that is not great but considering peopel spend $425 for plenum and tb for say 9-10hp it is really not bad. the ford shorties will not sound really any better or give you any gain you can feal. IF the 500 is to much I would just pick another mod for the time being..

I have the SLP ones and am very satisfied with the quality. I've only had them for around a month and didnt get to drive it because of the snow, but they have thick flanges and from what the instructions say, have a nice warranty. I believe that there is some sort of guarantee that they will out perform any brand, I dont know how they are with backing that up though. I am very satisfied with mine

Thanks for your advice man, i appreciate it. But which JBA's you suggesting i get for the $500...L/T or shorties?? Just wondering. Got a website for JBA?

And $500 isn't too much money, and since i am doing the PI headswap this summer, my mechanice can install the headers while he is doing that. Hes a guy that works for ford and hooks me up on the side I love it! Ford maintenance for a super discount price! The guy loves working on my GT so he hooks me up.

I got a set of JBA shorties ceramic coated for 440 bucks shipped and everything. There an awesome set of headers. My 99 Gt is lowered 2 inches so they work perfectly. They are a bitch to install tho!
