BEST HEADS FOR 4.6

can you swap 4v heads drectly onto a previously 2v engine? any significant power increases?
Yes, the blocks are interchangeable. But keep in mind that it's not just as easy as a head swap. You'll also need all the front end components (gears, chains, guides) as well as the proper timing cover and accessory brackets that goes along with the swap. Not to mention that the 4V heads with 2V pistons would increase the compression dramatically. If someone wanted to attempt this, I'd suggest getting a complete donor engine from an old Mark VIII and go from there. Then of course there would be no reason to use the 2V block afterwards, since the early Mark VIII/Mustang Cobra blocks were the best of the bunch anyway. Not to mention are made of lighter aluminum.

It’s not a cheap or an easy process, but it can be done. You’ll just need a little time, moderate amount of patience and a lot of money. :D

Actually, I think it goes the other way. 4V pistons are close to being flat-tops while the 2V pistons are dished and 4V heads have more chamber volume than the 2V ones. The result of a 4V head (big chambers) on a 2V shortblock (w/dished pistons) would be a very low mechanical compression ratio.

Still waiting for you to show me anyplace that actually sells them for that price. Sure they talk about getting them for $450 a set, but you'll notice that they don't state a source. What it doesn't specify with that statement is if that's new or used price. If it is in fact a new set they're referring to, I would expect that it's the cost of a "bare casting" and not a complete assembly (i.e. valves, springs, retainers). Most sources I've found that sell '03-'04 Cobra heads want anywhere from $1,700 (with exchange) - $2,200 (without) for a set. So again....don't count on finding a new set for under $500.
