Best Street Tire

I'm about to be needing a couple new tires for my car, going to put them in the rear, and I was wanting to know what the best hooking street tires would be. Drag radials are not practical for me right now, unfortunately. And what size can I put on an 18x9" rim, 285/35 or 295/35? I'm wanting a wide tire that'll grip as best as possible for a street tire.

Help me out guys, i'm not that bright about street tires when it comes to best traction :D :SNSign:

If price is not an issue, BFG KD's or Goodyear GS-D3's. Otherwise get some Nitto NT-555's, which are awesome too but cheaper than the other 2. What size are you going to run in the front?

I've been considering the Goodyear GS-D3's and the KD's, KDW's and KDW2's.. just not sure if the money spent will be justified :(

See if you can get some BFG KDs from www.tirerack.com . Those are awsome from what i hear. And I would go 295, just make sure its about 25.7 inches tall.

And any particular reason you just need tires for the REAR Jason? lol

Yeah, I believe they're all 25.6-7" tall.. I just want a really wide tire for the size rim i've got

They just seem to wear faster on this car for some odd reason.. not sure why

:D

I've run nittos for about 5 years and last year swapped to the bfgs. The bfgs hook a good amount better but don't last at all. I also never had any issues driving in the rain with my nittos but the bfgs are a complete nightmare. Being a street car, I'll be going back to nittos real soon.

That's weird.. When I bought the car, it had some BFG KDW's with 15k on them and they lasted forever with quite a bit of racing and very spirited driving.. they were nice in the rain for me

I know one thing, if I were buying off of looks. Those Good years would be on in a half second lol. LOVE the V tread.

But if it helps, MY next tires will be sumitimozo (sp) 315/35/17s. My dad got some mounted on some 17X10.5 DD bullitts (like mine), and wow they hook great. 1st is still gone, and it still goes to 6K in 2nd but just as it hits 5500-6, it abruptly just HOOKs and slamms your head back in the seat lol. They definatly hook ALOT better than my 285 kumhos. See if you can get them in 295/19s. And only 110 a peice lol, awsome price for the grip.(BTW they look ALOT better in person)

Which Sumi's are they?

I was running a set of Kumho ECSTA 255/40 R17's and I HATED them. They were crap. I'm now running a set of Zexius (after Falken bought them out they make good cheap stuff) but when I get wheels I want to run a set of Toyo Proxes T1-S, they hook up really well, or a set of Falken Azenis RT-615 those tires are freaking HOT.

HM331, im not calling you a liar at all, but from my experience the sumitomo HTR + i bought suck as far as hooking goes. these damn things wear the road down. they dont grip at all. the best 60' ive ever pulled with them was a 2.11 and that was with a perfect (for me anyway) launch on my 4th time down the track. I actually couldnt believe they were capable of that time. granted im not the best driver by any means, but all they do is spin, and break loose pretty bad in every gear but 5th (of course).

for a daily driven tire, they are cheap and will last quite a while, but i wouldnt take them to the track.

It's kinda cool to spin your tires like that, but it does have a lousy affect on your track times.
it puts on a nice show, when people who dont know any better are like

"oh **** son! you broke em loose in 4th! dayum!:Teh-Win: "

what they dont realize is that its not all the power of the car, its more the gearing and crappy tires.

REALLY! hmmmm, well maybe its just because they are new  . I cant spin them in 3rd(besides the 2nd-3rd shift...little spin), or 4th. the kumhos broke loose today a LITTLE @ 65 when I down shifted to 3rd and nailed it, but it doesnt happen all the time. You know, i have heard alot of persons sumitmos not hooking...maybe its the drag shocks and light springs up front that lest them hook well.

I took my dads 00 V6 out today, and decided to do a little "test". Revved to 3K and dumped it, it lit THE tire (single track) up  and spun all the way through 1st and a little into second. (nice smoke :D) They dont hook well on that car, they also spin from a roll in 1st with it. I was thinking that maybe it was the T lock, or the lack of it. But I expected it to just spin a little and hook in 1st with that much tire. Maybe they do suck

BTW they are HTR Zs, and they dont come in 18s...so nevermind lol.
