best tire size for 17x9 wheel

What do you guys think the best tire size for a 17x9 inch wheel for our mustangs?

I run 275/40/17 all the way around on my cobra R wheels.

my fronts are 40's, but either will do....Just to reiterate AGAIN, you "can" run 275's on a 9" with only a slight amt of bulging...it's not as bad as trying to run them on a stock rim...You "can" run 275's on the front....a lot of guys have been ok, but quite a few on here have not.

Yeah, I agree 255+/45/17's ... For cost reasons I went with 245's on my 17's, and it just dosen't look right to me.

I run 255 45 17 on the stock 17x8. I know of plenty of ppl who run all four 275 40 17's on 9" rims.

I have been debating between a 255/40/17 and a 255/45/17. Does anyone have a picture of the difference?

All right I'm gonna be different and say freaking 315/35's on the back. I have them and they look sick. Sumitomo HTRZ's.

I will say though, that running this wide of a tire on a 9" rim will not improve traction over a 275 or so. It's mainly just for looks. But when I first put these on, GOD they hooked better than my old 255's!

I wouldn't recommend that. I tried it once, my back ones were worn down pretty good, so I swapped the front for the rear. Goodbye cornering. I swapped them back that very night. Bald tires on the front = crappy handling.

But youre supposed to rotate the tires BEFORE they show signs of wear, not "because" they are wearing.

I ran 255/40/17 in front and 275/40/17 out back on an 8" wheel. I really think 315s are too big and think that 285/40/17 or 295/35/18 if you had 18s are the way to go out back, not too wide nor skinny.
