I had 265/285 on 9/10 rims without any issues. Handling was not affected in any big way, but then again I had a full MM suspension setup. There was slight understeer, but no biggie.
A 275 will give you some muffin tops, but some tires run wider than others for the same size, and vice versa. The Kumho's I ran were pretty spot on size wise, but other brands will run bigger/smaller.
For example, I just changed my tires on my car from Falken FK452s to Hankook Ventus V12s, and the V12s buldge a little more than the 452s did. Just something to think about.
