what is the best way to install the transmission?? is it easier to put the transmission and bellhousing together then put it on the block or put the bellhousing on the block first then put the transmission in? thanks

Get the clutch and bell and all that bolted up, then hit it with the spline gauge, then get on your back on the ground with the trany next to you (i'm assuming you're poor like me and have to swap tranys on floor jacks). Then, roll to your side and put the trany to your chest and roll over with it, then pick it up and slide it in. It's nice if you have someone there to hold the tail of the trany in so you can bolt it up, but i've done it solo, it sucks but it can be done. Use a jack stand to prop the back up while youre putting bolts in.

That is how I have always had to do it...But dont make the mistake I made ther first time I swapped trannys...I filled the trans with fluid...and you know how the rest goes...I was covered in ATF ( which is red) and walked in the house to change my shirt .....wife freaked! she thought I had dropped the car on myself and was covered in blood:rlaugh:

Yeah not to mention it's heavier with the fluid in.
