hey guys, im gonna have $4k really soon, im just thinkin about what i should do with my money, all of it is going to the car. I just figured i would ask u guys what i should do with it, the car does burn oil so i def. want to rebuild, i just dont know if i should just stick with the 302 and just bore it re-ring it, forged bottom end, or if i should go with a 306/331/347 etc. what do u guys suggest i do this 4k is with install on some parts like rebuild and bigger stuff. Let me know what the car's numbers and times would benefit from the most. thanks guys!!

Here's a cool idea. Buy a "roller" 351W shortblock out of a JY truck($100, or so). Spend the same $$$ rebuilding it that you would have in a 302 shortblock($600-$800, machine work/parts.) Spend some $$$ on good heads/rockers. (You've now spent about $2500, total.) Spend some on 351W swap headers and oil pan. (Another $500.) You can pay for a dyno tuned chip or something similar with the rest of the money.

Done right, you could be looking at 350, or so,rwhp and about 400-450lb/ft of torque. You would have an absolute MONSTER for a dependable N/A car. It would prolly still idle at less than 900rpm and pull decent vacuum. If you want more, down the road, a supercharger would be very do-able on a combo like that.

I would say that high 12's would be possible with even a mild N/A combo.

That's what I would consider if I had that kind of money to drop all at one time.

hmmz how come u make it sound so simple, i believe one also has to swap over some accessories as well for our year of cars if im not mistaken

Well, if it was EASY, everyone would be doing it. :)

I can't see a few accessory tweaks causing someone to not build a big Windsor for their GT. All of the accessories should bolt up with little or no trouble.

well the only thing is emissions is a problem, and when they pop the hood and see a 351 instead of a 302 isnt it a fail automatically because on the reg. it would say 302 still.. i just dont want to go through the hassle of going to deal with dmv and the insurance about it..

also no, i have nothing done to the trans. i was planning on savin up after the rebuild for the motor, for a jegs aode... i have heard they are good!

yea they always just take in the car, and pop the hood, i had nitrous in my talon, and the guy came out and was like so hows the nitrous...?? but i mean he didnt fail me. so where could i get the parts, and how much would a 351 setup cost, what numbers and times should i be seeing as far as my money goes?? thanks guys!

My friend has a 94 GT with a 351w in it the smog guy didnt know the difference it pass flawlessll. We put the lower intake out of a 95 lightning which had the 351w and the gt40 upper almost nobody knows the difference since everything else bolted on like factory and it looks close to stock.

Not trying to be a smartass. Maybe you need to read it from more than one person? Just kidding!!!! I have built/run a lot of 351w's. I was actually one of the first people to do it. When I started with them, guys were still building 351C's. The parts weren't available in the JY or new for the Cleveland(only produced for 3 years!), so...... I figured "worst case scenario, I can put a $100 shortblock in it, if I blow it up with the Windsor." That was 84-85. Thanks to the 5.0 Mustang, we have great heads and cams for the Windsor. (Lower intake is different.)

In all honesty, there are a LOT of FORD guys that can't tell the diff between a 351/302. I know the smog guy wont. The cool thing is, you can use the OEM computer (with tweecer or a chip) to operate it. It's just moving more air, like a 302 making similar power. The AODE will handle it.

You could just drop a 351 shortblock in it, if you have decent heads and stuff now, then have some left over for the tranny. Then, later on buy some great heads and stuff for it.

I like this thread. There are a lot of guys supporting that swap.

I myself have thought about a Windsor many times if I ever get around to doing a high hp combo.

I've not spent a lot of time on the idea
so
I do have to ask :D

About the intake

IIRC, Edel, TFS or someone else makes one that will do the job better than an oem gt40 setup ...... don't they

Why choke down the extra cubes with a tiny 302 intake :nono:
