Lope isn't all its cracked up to be. Mine has a lope....but drives like crap at certain rpm's. Just likes to buck like a bronco. If I'm in 4th going about 45....there is no cruising with just a little gas. It either wants it all or nothing. Now if I drop down to 3rd and let it run at like 3k its just fine. But at like 2200....not a happy camper unless its just speeding past that range.

I run a Comp Cams NX264HR .512/.512 212/218@.050" 114° camshaft

and it has a real nice lope to it.......sounds fairly radical but isn't.

that sounds healthy to me

i have a trickflow cam in a 95 which r known for finicky computers

it is kinda "small "cam wise and lumped like a s.o.b.
it was cool and others r happy too here it but

with a tune it all went away ,and should
much smoother

the heavy lope just doesnt seem necessary for average street or even a bit above

nice looking fox btw

That is a significant difference from the green notch. Would it be impossible to pull of a valve cover and measure the lift with a dial indicator? Mistakes do happen and you may not have gotten what you paid for. Cam timing can also affect lope to a degree. Where did you set the cam up at?

sounds like a high idle , but could be just me...........make sure your throttle cable isn't sticking, I ran into that when I did my motor. I checked everything except that and sure enough a slight adjustment and viola! it was fixed

It runs like an animal

I wasnt complaining i just didnt know if something was wrong with the car because i was expecting a lot more lope.

Thanks for the compliments. Not trying to brag but it sounds so much better and louder in person.

Ill try to get a better video soon.

Oh and i like how you cant tell i got rearended by a dumptruck in this video

i used to think that a loping cam was sick.

i have got tot he point now where i actually prefer a smoother idle over a lopey one.
dont get me wrong, a cam lope sounds pretty good. but i hate it when people purposely turn down the idle as low as they can to get the engine to get that lopey sound.

i used to run a B-cam and it had a decent lope and sounded intimidating, i switched to an F-cam and better heads, the F-cam actually has less of a lope IMO than the B, has slightly more duration and more lift, but it has a wider LSA, which i am guessing affects the lope to some degree. the F-cam seems to have a faster chop.

before i tuned the idle on my with the tweecer, the car would idle around 700-750. it loped harder but i hated the low idle with the cam. now i made it where the car idles around 1000, i like it ALOT better, ive found the intial tip in taking off from a stoplight is much smoother and the engine does seem so unstable.

i myself dont care about a lopey idle. its all about how good it runs at WOT

It's all in the tune. My buddy's 347 has over .600 lift and i don't recall the duration but it's crazy. You can't fart around at 1500rpm and you have to give it some RPM to come off a stop, but after that if you just make sure you're at the proper RPM for the gear you're in, it's all good. This is an area where i'll nod my hat to EFI setups because they can work with huge cams and be more streetable than an equally cammed carb engine since all that cam effects vacuum. It can be done but takes a lot of carb tuning knowhow.
