black widows in western oregon?

I found another one of the little bastards hanging outside of my garage door today. I bug bombed the garage, but that little bugger was living up in the eves.
I scooped her into a platic jar with a screw driver. Now I feel like I have spider webs all over me. I bought some bug spray for direct application. But its all fruity and smells like air freshner. I hosed down a couple of normal spiders and they were still crawling around after five minutes. Which is unacceptable. I want some spray that instantly vaporizes any bug it contacts. Just for when the shiny black buggers come chomping at my eyeballs with thier venom dripping fangs and murder in thier eyes.

I need to find some sort of ultimate weapon against the eight legged closet pirates. Like some sort of pissed off snake, or a very irratated lizard. Possibly some nanobots (equiped with ninja like skills and cans of raid).

Right now I will have to make do with my sissy bug spray and my outwardly bad attitude (I am actually a nice guy on the inside). I might have to seal off the house with duct tape and roofing caulk. But to do that I would have to go into the black widow infested garage and sort through a few boxes to find it. So I think my best bet would be to just burn the house down and hope that It torches all the little bastards.

I cant believe what I'm hearing about these spiders! I am not trying to bash on you guys, but I am not wierded out by them at all. I used to play with daddy longlegs spiders all the time when I was a kid. Nothing was more fun than catching one and putting it on a girl!

That being said, I'm still afraid of some of them, like black widows and brown recluse, of course. We found a recluse spider out in my buddy's garage a couple months ago, he lives right near the woods. None of us wanted to kill it, but you could clearly see the "violin" on his/her back, and we weren't letting it get in the house!

I'm scared of them, just not creeped out. I have tons of spiders at my place. And about a year ago I had one crawl in my ear in my sleep and bite me (at least that was the doctor's guess!). That should freak you guys out pretty good!

Yeah, I'll admit I didnt sleep too well that night, after being told that! My girlfriend couldn't sleep at all!

I spent the last hour walking around my house with a flashlight and a can of the sissy bug spray. I hosed every bug with eight legs that I saw. I ended up killing two more black widows. I am now up to four.

I also knocked off about two dozen brown ones. I figured that I could not garantee that they were not vicious killers, so I offed them.

after post number 2, i started itching and feeling things on me. I hate spiders. A lot. I have this creepy little jumping spiders in my room... those are the worst because when you spray them, they jump and you never know what direction they'll go in.

UGH. When I was little, I had these adorable little pink tennishoes, and I put my little bare foot in one- and met toe-first with a brown recluse. I screamed and threw it across the room.

I don't leave my shoes outside anymore.

Only adult (or nearly adult) females are capable of biting through human skin and injecting venom, males and juveniles of both genders are basically harmless. And if you are bitten, your odds of dying are microscopic (there have been no documented deaths from black widow bites in the United States in over 20 years).

The brown recluse is nasty, but recluse spiders only exist in the southern United States (and lately they've shown up in a few places in southern California). In the Northwest we have a similar looking large brown spider called the Hobo Spider (formerly "Aggressive House Spider" ). It causes a similar kind of wound as the brown recluse, though not as severe. When you hear of someone in the Northwest getting bitten by a brown recluse, what they really got bitten by was a Hobo Spider. Still nasty.

I realized the other day that I really like slugs.

they go through life slow and easy, bumbling around leaving a trail of goo. They do not have fangs, nor do they have the desire to bite me. plus, if one decides to turn on you. Then its really easy to kill it.

We have those giant slugs up here that are like 8" long and we used to get up early during summer camping trips and break out the salt box and have fun.

Had fun with black widows a couple years ago. Was doing some underground vault work out in Umatilla Or. The vault was full of black widows and stink bugs. So between rigging up cables for pulls id catch stink bugs and toss them to the black widows. was fun to watch them make thier kills. Black widow is a very efficient killer I fugured if i kept them busy and fed i wouldnt have to worry about them while i was in thier home working.

i used to hotglue sticks in a mayo jar and catch spiders, let them live in there. cool to see them build their wicked nests. i'd never feed them though kept that frkn jar lid closed. no way am i getting bit.
