bleeding brakes

i've never worked on brakes before but i'd like to learn, how exactly do i go about bleeding my front brakes, i'm about to install an sllp linelock and i want to do it all on my on.

such a noob question!!

Crack bleeder scew open, have friend push brake, when brake is to floor, close bleeder screw. Repeat.

But....installing line lock may require you to bleed them with a scanner since you are breaking open the ABS unit.

don't need em. Get a 20oz coke bottle. Put some brake fluid in it to fill it like 1/5 the way. Get a tube and connect it to the bleeder screw then submerge it in bottle fluid - keep pumping the brake until all the bubbles are gone - keep MC full and repeat process untill fully bled starting from furthest caliper from the MC.

One tip I gleaned from this forum on my last brake bleeding adventure ( I had to change out a front caliper), is that it REALLY helps to bleed the master cylinder as well, if the brake pedal is a bit "mushy".

It took a container of clean brake fluid, a 10mm bleeder wrench, a clear 1/4" ID plastic tube, and an assistant to hold the brake pedal down while I cracked the bleeder screw(s) open. Done in less than two minutes, and I'm slow !

That's how i do it. I even managed to do it alone without speed bleeders.

Just put the line in a bottle of fluid and pump the pedal. When you lift up on the pedal, it draws fluid from the MC...not back through the bleeder.


Bleed all 4 brakes starting from rear to front. Then bleed the MC (there are two scrwws on the side)

I bleed my brakes yearly. Every time after i'm done, the pedal feels so much better with fresh fluid.

at work i used a Vacula, at home i use speed bleeders. when i had the mustang i would flush the system at every oil change, about 6 months. i didnt have ABS, so it was easy.

first off PITA,

slp's instructions are about as readable as used toilet paper!! but it's on, talk about a tight space for real, i went out and got one of these Craftsman Vacuum Pump/Brake Bleed Kit - Model 20930 at Sears.com
and one of these Lisle Brake Bleeder - Model 19200 at Sears.com
i started in the pass rear the driver rear then pass frt then drv frt, i did do the MC 1st. the car does stop but not as firm as it did, the pedal feels soft. What now, Bleed again?

yes, bleed again. there might still be some air pockets in the line. After I installed mine I had to bleed the brakes twice as well.

you don't even need anyone else to help you like said before just attach a hose to the end of the bleeder screw I believe it's 1/4 inch inside diameter and pump away into a containter

I typed a book in the other bleeding brakes thread in this forum. My car had trouble because I swapped all the GT stuff into a fox body, so I have every line open. Nothing got the brakes perfect, til I bled the M/C. Highly recommend it. My Dad said a ton of air came out of it, when I pushed the pedal.
