Hey fellow stangers, I'm getting ready to pool all my parts and send them to the machine shop for my upcoming 331 project (stock block w/main girdle, scat nod crank, 4340 rods, probe dish pistons). I'm about 95% positive I want to run a centrifugal supercharger after great amounts of deliberation of which power adder to run...more specifically a powerdyne due to the self contained oil res.

Now, I'm having some serious issues choosing a cam that will be livable on the street without too much fuss, yet enough to pull up close to the rev limiter. I'll be using edelbrock RPM heads, cobra intake (probably going box upper), full mac exh (long tubes), 3.55's, 70mm tb, 73mm C&L, 24lb inj (prior to blower install). Oh, and did I mention, that with the new engine I'll be converting from carb to FI?

I know when the boost goes to it, I'll need bigger injectors, but I won't be able to buy the huffer just yet, so I figure the smaller injectors should work fine for now. which brings me to the crux of the situation...I'd prefer to not have to swap cams during the blower install, but rather find a cam that will play well with my 9:1 comp ratio, and produce good power with the blower installed. I've looked at a couple like the TFS stage 1 or 2 cams. I don't have unrealistic expectations for this thing, but I think 400-450 to the wheels with about 8-12lbs is fair and realistic with that engine. If I'm off, please don't hesitate to inform me otherwise.

the car will be a daily driver with occasional trips to the strip. I've already got a couple chassis and suspension mods with more to come to handle the upcoming increase of power from 306 to blown 331...any of you guys got any input or suggestions? thanks in advance

Get up with an outfit that grind custom cams. Tell them abot your combo, dreams, and desires, then let them go to work and make a cam that will get you as close to what you want as it can me.

is there much of a price difference by going with a custom grind, or are cam grinders not price gougers like everyone else that does "custom" work?

www.flowtechinduction.com Ed will spec you one badass cam. My car is very mild, and the car is really fun to drive...and it's not even boosted yet! Mine was 325 bucks. Well worth it. Especially since you have all those nice parts, definitely invest in a custom grind. I think you'll easily hit 450rwhp

Have you looked into the F303 cam. There are lots of guys running it with great results. Cam has blower friendly specs/attributes and it's cheap. By the way your power goals seem right in line.

Where did you hear that an F would be good for a blower. IMO an E cam would be great because it has less overlap and more lift.

P.S You dont want all that precious boost blowing out your exhaust valve because the cam has too much overlap. F cam is for N/A.

Comp Cams has a line of cams especially for blowers.....maybe look into one of those if you don't go the custom route.

Well, the F cam has more lift, but only by 0.012", but the duration is a few deg more, I have read before though that the E cam was pretty blower friendly. I have a brand new in box Z cam, but I know that's too much for my stock cr, and the power band is not exactly what I'd refer to as street friendly...not to mention the overlap.

anyway-thanks for the link mole, I might just have to ck them out. like you said $325 has got to be well worth the insta-grin factor that will behave well until the blower goes on

much appreciated guys

now the only thing I have to fret about is how long will that stock block hold up to the fun...unless i happen to find a killer deal on an A4,R, or dart block

How about a Steeda #18? They're designed with superchargers in mind. I put one in my car anticipating a supercharger in the future, runs good.

There are 100's of guys at turbomustangs running f-cams. It is really the goto cam over there for forced induction motors. Do a search for f303 and you will find lots of info over there. The owner of the site is running over 1000HP with an f cam.

http://www.turbomustangs.com/projectcar/Brent/brentmain.php

I should have also mentioned most guys running the f cams are also combining it with 1.7rr's....the specs of the F303 with 1.7 rr's are below:

Duration = 226/226
Lift = .544"/.544"
LSA = 114* (109*intake/119*exhaust)

For comparison the specs below are from Cam Motion for a turbo 331 using 1.6 RRs about a $300 cam:
Duration = 226/220
Lift = .540"/.542"
LSA = 114* (110*intake/118*exhaust)
