As some of you know I got a SC for a Christmas/ Birthday present. Well I didnt get the blower but got $4,000 to buy it. I have put the money in the bank until March or when ever it gets and stays nice out to buy and install it.
I got to thinking though, should I take the money and do all the internal work on it (Rods, pistons, crankshaft) and if theres any $$ left blower cams and possibly P&P heads. Then save up and just put on a 2.2 KB. Plus I dont know how much it would cost to do all the internall work so would that even be enough money? Im sure it is but just checking. Since the engine would be built though I could crank up the boost and got to town once the KB is on.
Or should I get the ProCharger, which is what I've been looking and planning on doing, and keep the boost low untill I can afford to do all the internal work?

What do you guys suggest this is alot of money Ill be spending and I want to spend it the smartest way possible. What did you guys do or wish you would have done? I know I can have money for the 2.2 KB saved up in 2 years if not sooner if I do all the internal work first.

stay away from the Procharger P1. that is the last one i'd ever buy.

a forged shortblock will run you about $3000. that's not including pulling the engine out and dropping it back in. if you can do the work yourself, it will save you alot of money.

that is hard to say. I think I would just do the supercharger and go easy on the rpms for now. just shift at 5500.

then I would start saving for the $2500 vt forged shortblock. this way you would have power now then add more power later. would cost a bit less too. 500hp would be you limit though but that is alot in a street car.

I have seen fairly impressive power out of the stock heads and cams so I think I would just start with boost to make the power. spend money on other things only If I was not satified.

really depend on you budget but this way you would only be one year away from big power. if you can save for a kb 2.2L in two years. you can save for the vt shortblock in one.

I would not use the procharger though. I would either do kb or mongoose kit only.

How much hp is the stock block good for?
the stock block is pretty stout. not sure what the exact hp # would be, but im pretty sure those guys making 600+ hp are running stock blocks. its the internals that are weak. 400hp and you're running on borrowed time.

over 800hp

how much power are you planning on making? i'm in the process of upgrading my rods/pistons and after lots of research am keeping my stock crank. I have found lots of people making 500hp with it so i won't waste the money upgrading it. You can find good deals on forged rods/pistons. I'm not sure what installation will cost you, i'm doing my own to save the cash so i can get my Vortech quicker.
If your mature enough to respect the fact that you can't beat the crap out your your car all day long then i say go ahead and order a Supercharger kit now. If you can't resist the urge then maybe a built shortblock is the way to go for you.

So would I get a Rotating Assemblie Kit or just a Rod and Piston Kit?

Also how much do you think it would cost to install all of it plus a set of VT Stage 2 Blower Cams?

^^You answerd my quistion before I could finish typing it

You will be miserable driving around with forged internals for two years waiting to buy a blower. What is your end objective? If you just want a hot street car, I would buy a Kenne Bell 1.7 and a few suspension mods and be done with it. You can safely run up to 400 rwhp with your stock engine and a good tune. Anything more than 400 rwhp on the street is pretty much a waste.

If you want more than that, you are going to need a forged shortblock. Rather that mess around with rebuilding your's, I would buy a forged shortblock from Modular Powerhouse and sell you stock shortblock. However, before you spend your money on that, get a KB 2.2 and pulley down to 400 rwhp and enjoy your car while you save for the shortblock. After you get the forged shortblock, turn up the wick to 500 or 600 rwhp.

I agree with jim. all you'll be doing is putting miles on your built motor while saving for a blower. which is fine, your supposed to put miles on them. But knowing you could have 385-400hp with a good tune and run fine while saving for that S/B.....i couldnt do it. if you can, you're a stronger man than I.

off topic but helty where in AR do you live? i go to harding and would kill to hear your exhaust setup one day.
I go to UCA, live in Conway. there's a few of us that head up to Centerville dragstrip every now and then, I'll let you know next time in case you're interested. I know its a bit of a hike from Searcy though. Im sure if you ever wanted to we could meet up sometime. I love whoring out my exhaust. Hell I'll even bring my old LMI's and we can swap them out so you can hear the difference. Jasonh_86 is my roommate, so you'd get to hear his set-up too.

anyway, keep in touch, we'll get something going sometime.

sweet sounds good. i dont have an exhaust yet and am in constant anguish over it...just my little blower ;).
:rlaugh: Just your little blower, lucky dog :D I envy you. Tell you what, I'll let you hear my exhaust if you take me for a spin. Im saving for a Novi 2000 this summer and need some real motivation to save the money instead of spending it. I'd love to feel the pull of a blown 4.6. :nice:
