Steelers' Harrison plans to skip White House
James Harrison plans to pass on another trip to the White House with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

PITTSBURGH —
James Harrison plans to pass on another trip to the White House with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Harrison, the NFL Defensive Player of the Year, says he'll skip the Super Bowl champion's visit to the White House to meet President Barack Obama on Thursday, just as he did when the Steelers were honored by President George W. Bush in June 2006.

Harrison told Pittsburgh station WTAE-TV he doesn't believe the invitation is all that special, saying if the Steelers hadn't beaten the Cardinals 27-23 with a last-minute rally, Arizona would have been invited.

The Steelers had no comment Monday about Harrison's comments. Steelers chairman Dan Rooney was an early supporter of Obama's and has been nominated to be the U.S. ambassador to Ireland.

Too bad he's not boycotting to show his dislike of BO's terrible polices.

Says the guy who's former quarterback is making an ass out of himself the past 2 years.

On another note, Tony Kornholer got canned as MNF commentator. Thank friggin' god. That guy was a complete idiot. In comes "Chucky" Gruden.

care to explain to me why he is making a ass of himself? he wants to play football and wants to be a starter green bay wouldnt offer him that. was he wrong to request a trade? then the jets release him he thinks he may want to come back to the league again how is he making a ass of himself?

Cause for the past five years we have had our Brett Favre farewell tour and it gets him tons of media coverage which is just what he wants. He's a gloryhound. He held your Packers hostage for years , he tried it with the Jets but there were having none of it.
It was the same old "Well I think I'm done but I'm gonna think about it until it's too late for my team to get another QB and I'll come back in and save the day."

I have to agree that his reason is pretty dumb, saying that the Cardinals would have gone had they won. Well duh, that's the tradition.

But, it's his decision though.

I have two opinions on this

1. You kinda should go and at least honor the office and tradition.
2. Like you said. It's his decision and they can't make him go. But James Harrison is anything but cocky. He doesn't try to draw attention to himself and hell, I've only seen the guy smile one time. Even after the SB win he didn't cheese it for the camera. All the guy wants to do is play football

any time you have Brady and Moss you're gonna be dangerous. . .but that D is WAY old now.

Steelers repeat? Possible. I hope for one though!

I agree with most of that, but the Pats D is (thankfully) getting drastically younger. Sure they still have Bruschi, but other than that they're really not all that old (well, unless you count Springs who will probably be a nickel corner). Bruschi won't be a full-time starter anymore with Guyton having a good/solid year under his belt. Mayo should be great again this year and Adalius on the outside should be better (got hurt too early last year, imo). It sucks that our 3rd round draft pick (McKinzie or however you spell it) tore his acl, so he's done for the year. Meriweather, Sanders, Butler, Wilhite, Wheatley, Bodden and Chung will make up most of our secondary (so it's quite young now). Wilfork and Warren aren't that old, but Seymour is getting up there. We need another OLB to solidify the LB core, but other than that they were able to get younger quite a bit over the past 2 drafts.

Steelers are going to be tough to beat again this year. I think it'll come down to Pats/Steelers in the AFC Championship game.

Kornheiser is awesome, I can't stand Gruden. That guy is annoying. At least Tony cracked good jokes, he's great on PTI.

I agree with this one as well.. Even if I didn't like Obama or shared his same view on this thing I would go because you never know when you'll get invited BACK to the White House. Going there to meet the Pres would be great!

Oh yeah.. I've had quite the revelation lately. Some people might jump all over me for this, but I don't care.. the playoffs/season/rings speak for themselves... Big Ben has surpassed Peyton in my opinion. Peyton can't get it done in the playoffs (with the exception of '06), but Big Ben has already won 2 SB's. I have Big Ben slightly behind Brady right now at the top of the NFL QB's; depending on how Brady comes back after the knee injury and how Ben follows up the SB-winning season that could change (as much as it pains me to say it).

Am I a Steelers fan? No way. Am I a ridiculously die-hard Pats fan? Yes, still! But, i'm just trying to be unbiased on that - it's the truth.

Take minnisota out of this. think of what he did to YOUR team. "I'm not sure if I'm done. . . so I wouldn't get a qb ready yet. . .get me some good players and I'll see. . .What? you didn't get a qb? . . . yeah I'll come back and be the hero"

Ok You'll have to forgive my ignorence on that one. I wasn't sure how NE addressed their D. Sounds like they are getting it back on trackcause they were GOD aweful last year. Lot's of that had to do with inguries I know but it showed no depth. So good for them. Its a shame to waste all that offensive talent when they would NEED to put up 30 plus a game (Indy). . . .

Yes I believe Ben has proven himself to be a big time QB and the SB showed that. But as far as comparing him to Manning it's really not fair cause Ben has had the D to back him up where Peyton has not. He was drafted to a terrible team who had nothing. I say what he has done so far has been nothing short of a first ballot HOFer. Look at Marino.
But it's great to see fans who give credit where credit is due. I can't stand people who are like "Ben sucks. . .Ben gets lucky. . .Ben has a great team around him so that's why he's doing well . . "
Fact is he does have a great team around him but your QB has to be good to complete the puzzle. kordell Stewart had great teams around him and you see where that went.

Fact is Ben is a pretty damn good QB with a rather unorthodox style when he needs it. But a QB who can escape pressure and stlll hit the big pass is a really good thing to have nowadays

i mean i don't really think that green bay fans ever took it that way well because everyone of us wanted him so bad that we was willing to wait and in some way felt that we owed him that time.

It will be interestinf to see what a year away from the game will do to a star player.

We meet up on Monday night!

Brady will do just fine, he will be able to play a full training season and preseason. Unlike Peyton he was still rehabbing at the start of the year and it took him awhile to get back in the swing of things. Brady on the other had has had the surgery long ago and has has ample time to rehab and get back into things.

Brady is a multi Superbowl winner, MVP, Record holder, one of the best QB's to ever play the game. I doubt he forgot how to get it done.

It's all good :nice:... Most people who don't pay attention to the Pats big-time probably don't know a whole lot about what they've been doing to add depth and infuse some youth into that aging defense.

I used to not care for Ben, but after watching that last SB and games from '07 and '08 I had to give credit to the guy.. He makes some crazy plays. He's so hard to bring down and can still throw a great pass while being drug down by a D-lineman, it's nuts.

Exactly. He's been throwing since February and Belichick has even said that he's doing all of his normal off-season routines/programs without limitation now. He's never been the most mobile qb, so i'm not worried about that part as long as he can still side-step the pass rush. I think he'll be just fine since he's had soooo much time to get ready. He needs to shake the rest of the rust off in the preseason tho bc it's inevitable that he'll have some, everyone does after that long of a layoff.

 Good grief. That guy talks so much B.S. it's like having a 5 year old kid spouting off crap on tv. The game will be 14-0 in the first quarter and Kornholer will already be saying the game is over. I can see why Theismann and Kornholer never got along. Theismann would have had a field day burning Kornholer into the ground if it was possible. His knowledge of football is zilch.

No of course they didn't. I would feel the same way if I was a Packer fan I'm sure but I was seeing it as a third person point of view. BUt there comes a point when you gotta say look, don't make us wait to the point of hurting the team.
