BMW vs. Mustang GT

I have a STOCK 94 GT 5-speed. My friend's mom has a 200? BMW 325ci or something like that, its a four door. It had an straight 6, with the automatic/manual transmission. Its pretty quick, and he wants to race. I'm not sure about it, but i was wondering if anyone knew what kinda HP and Torque these cars have? and if i would win in a 1/8 or 1/4 mile race.

184 bhp, 175 ft-lbs of torque, 3219 lb curb weight. At best he has a 100 lb weight advantage. You have 30+ more horsepower, and 125 more ft-lbs of torque. If you don't beat him, turn in your Mustang keys.

I think they came with an inline-6 24-valve engine with 225 hp. Your chances are not good.

i've always heard horsepower doesnt win races, torque does, and i'd say i'll be whoopin his a$$ in torque, in a 2 mile race, he could prolly beat me.

I just did a quick google search they only came with 215tq you should take him I thought they had more tq then that.

IF its a 325 then its not a I6 its a 2.5 liter 4 popper, the I6 is the 330 or the 3.0 liter I6. This 330 is the older gen M3 I6 that was in the 96-98ish (or when the M3 was rated lower than the current models I am not that sure on model changes). So if it is a 330 they can go 13.9ish with a good driver and a man. trans. Make sure it is not a 330.

In the BMW number system the last 2 digits denote the engine liter size otherwise the bodies are all the same and that is the first digit.

I'm not completly sure about the model of the car, but i do know it has a I6, and its a four door. And i dont think its fast enough to run 13's.

Ok so its a 2.3 I6 not the 3.0 I6, It should be slow, and as far as the 330 it is just as fast as the older M3, and a bud has a older M3 that goes 13.9 stock. He is a BMW freak. I thought he said the 22x was a 4 banger but I may have mis-understood him and just thought that it would be since the 330 is a I6 and thought no way BMW would but a smaller I6 in that line.

ON the street though a driver can make or break any cars numbers. I have seen high 13 sec. cars take out low 13 high 12 sec cars on the street.

If i hit the shifts, i'm confident i can win, but i'm 17, and have been driving a stick for only a month. I'm pretty good, but definatly no drag racer. Any tips on shifting too would help!!

get a good launch by playing around at what rpm you leave at that will not bog, spin the tires, or stall your car. then its shift at 5,000rpms.

torque deff wins races to a certain point, i raced a supercharged buick regal with 240 horse when my car only had an exhaust and i beat it, i raced one of those new maximas too which have like 240 horse or somethin i think an i smoked it.

I work at the local BMW dealership and thats all i do is drive around in them. I've had my time with pretty much all the models and I'll tell you the 323 is gonna be easy to beat. The 325 is gonna be a better run, and the 330 is gonna be a great match if not a loss. And if they are xi meaning they are all wheel drive, you don't really stand a chance with only a month of stick under your belt. But with it being only a 323, i'd even throw down some money.

This reminds me of when I raped a brand new M3 with temp. tags on it a few weeks ago. The actually had the balls to come up to me at the next red light and flip me off. I guess he was upset that some "ordinary" Mustang just annihilated his car by about 10 car lengths...

You should be able beat that guy...

Dude my mom had a 04" 325i and when my dad and i where doing my H/C/I i drove it and raced my friends AODE GT, he only had exhaust and from a dig i pulled him, but he would catch me and then put some cars on me. Also you racing some 2 ton luxury car too. THINK ABOUT IT.

Thanks guys, i'm gonna give him a run soon, i've never raced so i guess it'll be a good place to start. My friend with the BMW also has a STOCK 1969 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. I dont know if i wanna mess with that though.

My point is, there is no guarantee at all that old muscle cars are fast, in the vast majority of cases if they're stock they're slower than a typical family sedan today. Fear them not, unless you have good reason to.
