In the BMW number system the last 2 digits denote the engine liter size otherwise the bodies are all the same and that is the first digit.
Only 4cyl BMW's are 318's and 320's. Your wrong.
The first number is always the body style, and the last two numbers are generally the size of the motor but not always. In the case of 323 and 325.. the 323 is actually a 2.5L but a different motor than the 325. And some 325's are 2.5L's and some are 2.7L's.
